Haven't we been told a reduced vehicular presence is the saving grace for ailing retail?

Governments everywhere are claiming a reduced retail presence will be the saving grace for ailing retail.

In general, fewer cars enhances the retail environment with the exception of areas where there is an increase in retail vibrancy because there are more cars.

Tailored Brands has filed for bankruptcy protection. Their holdings include Lord and Taylor, Men's Wearhouse, and Moore's.

I received an email from Moores last night informing me of this. Another one bites the dust.

^ I think that most of these brands will survive, bankruptcy allows them to exit/renegotiate leases they don't like, dump agreements and offload some pension liabilities. The trademarks will get sold and we will see many again in a few years once retail picks back up.

Lole stores in Canada and US are closed, but it looks like the one on Government street might be closed for good.

They are under creditor protection and are closing half of their stores in Canada:  https://www.styledem...anadian-stores/

with covid I guess people are walking less. so wearing out less shoes.

plus with the murder hornets you don’t want open toe designs. After they steal your pocket change they go for your toes.

Swimco went into creditor protection this week; they operate a store locally at Mayfair Mall.

They’re a VERY good store, excellent service and quality product. I guess with less people taking vacations - it’s hard to sell swimwear - sad. They deserve to be in business

This is only the beginning guys. I own a retail store, very established. I thought I was in good shape when we shut down in March - but when you carry seasonal product, it’s extremely challenging (to say the least.) Covid is not going anywhere - anytime soon. I’d be surprised if 50% of the businesses downtown make it. Council needs to wake up and smell the coffee. They’re going to be in a serious situation soon
