Just one more reason to avoid the Bay Centre.

Are you saying the bay centre has gone to pot?  Are you trying to avoid that joint?  Do you find it doobie-ous?

Just trying to figure out why you're being so blunt...

chocolate will carry on at this location.

Chocolat & Co., which opened Saturday at 703 Fort St., is a collective of the vanguard of chocolate producers in Victoria who are sourcing cacao beans from around the world and “obsessing” with roasting, refining and creating chocolate treats and drinks.

Billed as the oldest security company in Canada, Victoria-based Price’s Alarms is now part of the Telus empire.

The family-owned company, which grew out of a locksmith business started in 1895, is now a division of Telus, which intends to integrate the operations over the next few months.

do we even need for-fee alarm monitoring anymore?   we have the internet now.

^^ which is probably why Prices is being sold. Telus has a few desks to fill in their new office building and Price’s staff get to continue working. Win win.

Their HQ is on Glanford at Enterprise. Does this mean they’ll be moving their staff downtown as part of the Telus consolidation?

It’s more the install and customer relations staff I was referring to. I wouldn’t think monitoring is that labour intensive. Or is it? I dunno.

for install surely they use mostly contractors.

for residential customers i'm sure the relations staff can also be elsewhere.

i just think downtown victoria is not the right place for fairly low-skill staff.  you want to find them in a lower-cost place.  where their low wage goes further.

I absolutely hate Telus.

And why’s that? Or, like most, do you hate all telecoms? Unfortunately we all have to deal with one.

All telecoms are evil; some are just more evil than others.

i'm very surprised this store lasted as long as it did.  it was nice enough but it looked like it might have trouble generating the income required here.  but i think it's been there 4-5 years.

Has anybody any idea of the volume of new commercial units coming to market in 2020?

In 20 years of business I've never seen so many empty units in the downtown core! With carry costs in the region of $4k a month I am all out of ideas for this shoe-box!

Are we staring at a complete breakdown of commercial real estate? If so we all really need to go back to the drawing board fast.

There is a lot coming. Some spaces are definitely struggling but the retail sector is needed and its evolution will continue.
