Parc Modern, a furniture store at Uptown, will be closing soon as the owners are about to retire.

Doesn't it depend how much arm hair he had to begin with? Maybe he's already lost 98% of it and that's the "after" pic.
VV forumers are generally a hirsute bunch. We should be able to relate.

An owner occupier building with live in suite or additional revenue suite. Located on a high traffic corner along Tillicum Road this property has significant potential for an array of retail or office uses. The surrounding area is growing at a substantial rate, with multiple developments coming to market. The subject property is within the Tillicum Road Development Permit Area of the Official Community Plan, with plans to incorporate additional development consisting of single family, multifamily and commercial properties.

About 2x assessed value. Must be planning to sell it to the Government.

There are 2 houses just west of there that are also priced way over assessment. I think the assumption is someone will pay much more for a potential development site.

Those 2 houses would be much more attractive as future development if they included the one other house on the block.
Land assembly is challenging and a gamble.

Le Chateau going out of business due to COVID-19 impacts
The Montreal-based retailer will be closing 123 stores and cutting 1,400 employees who work in stores and at the company's head office. Le Chateau will be liquidating its merchandise.
they had a pretty good run i guess. 1959 until now. if a company goes 61 years then closes due to a 7-month pandemic i presume it was likely on the edge for some time.

Walk into Le Chateau today and it's mostly like any other store, suits, ties, cocktail dresses. Aimed younger than Reitmans or Moore's but still pretty conventional.
But in the 80s it was really out there. Shiny suits cut at the hip with gold chains, stuff you'd wear if you were in Prince's band. You couldn't buy a "normal" suit there.
Fashion was a lot more wild back then and clothes have remained very conservative for the last 20 and we've basically been in 1962 for decades. Google "JFK yacht" and see for yourself. We're stuck in time.

that's right. they were purple or white or gold. kind of club wear. not stuff you'd wear to work or school.

I am not sure that brick and mortar stores are going to fully recouver after the pandemic is over. Makes one wonder about the unemployment rate.

there is almost no doubt that some portion of the population has been suddenly turned on to inline shopping. it was happening anyway but now it has accelerated a bit.
overall does it take more or less people to ship a product online? so while there might be store clerks out of jobs here, there are more people than ever working in fulfillment centres elsewhere.
lose your job at the mall, get a job driving a purolator truck.
btw females are horrendously underrepresented driving delivery trucks. opposite of malls.

I doubt it's a one-for-one job correlation. There will be fewer jobs.

I just don't see how you can buy clothing online. I've only bought a couple of things out of necessity and both really didn't fit very well. I guess that's why so many people, esp. women, look like schlumps.
I remember buying a very lovely suede jacket from Le Chateau 25 years ago.
