A unique opportunity to acquire this historically significant office building on Victoria's downtown fringe with ample on-site parking. The location benefits from excellent exposure on the corner of Douglas and Bay Streets with 40,000 vehicles per day. The property is improved with a two-storey building over a partial basement that was constructed in 1910 for the Canadian Bank of Commerce. This is a well-maintained building with heritage features that would be an excellent opportunity as an investment or for owner occupancy.

Since I drive by this everyday to go to work, I've wondered about the story once I saw the for lease sign.

Amazing! I've never been inside. That must be the original 1910 interior. I just assumed it was gutted for offices years ago. I hope some business buys it and keeps it. Fixes it up a bit.

Funny, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the above picture.

I have always liked the look of that building, it looks serious and solid.

So what happened to Bill Hartley Agencies? Moved? Closed? Sold? Defunct?

Bill Hartley brokerage has been gone for years. Changed into the Co-operators. I think they just closed it. They have a location downtown on fort street.

Sales in July, August, September and October dropped by more than 40 per cent in each month compared with the same months in 2019, HBC says in a court document.

The worst month for sales was April, when HBC’s sales at the Bay Centre declined to $3,267, down from $2.646 million in April 2019. Bay stores across Canada were closed from mid-March to mid-May.

Wasn’t the bay downtown closed in April? Seems bizarre. It’s always busy when I go there. We reopened in May. May, June, July, August & September were down for us. But every month improved slightly. We were UP in October & November seems ok but who knows if there will be a shutdown. The feds really saved our bacon with the wage subsidy. If it wasn’t for that, it would be quite scary.

I wish the Bay would open earlier than 11 am. I think both of their stores have that opening time. If I'm going to shop I like to start earlier and get it over with.

Agreed, there’s sometimes a lineup in the mornings. A lot of stores have returned to near normal hours - I believe it’s better to have longer hours during the pandemic to give people more options. But I guess if you’re nearing bankruptcy- you probably can’t afford it

Or if you can't get staff to come in to work because they are collecting the CERB/CRB you don't have a choice.

High visibility 7800 sq. ft. commercial property with mixed-use zoning at the southwest corner of Burnside and Harriet. The current C2 General Commercial zone (Saanich) would enable a mixed-use development with ground-level commercial and upper storey residential uses. Current zoning sets FSR = 1.2:1.0 with a maximum height of 15 meters - a good site to explore higher density use. The property includes a one storey commercial building (currently a convenience store) that is suitable for continuing retail or service use while a redevelopment application is prepared. Retail Business IS INCLUDED in the Purchase Price; Business is NOT being sold separately.

and then the "pm" has fallen off the one sign.  and all the colour seems to have fallen off the ice cream shaped sign at the front.

perhaps that was the last straw before they decided to sell.

A Saanich police canine unit arrested two men after a convenience store was robbed at knife point early Thursday.

Police were called to a store on Burnside Road West at Harriet Road Thursday at 12:30 a.m. after two men entered a store wearing medical masks and demanded a money while wielding a knife, said Saanich police spokesman Const. Markus Anastasiades.

The Bay store in Coquitlam closed Saturday as the company’s financial disputes with landlords continue to grow across Canada and in the U.S.

Landlords of several Hudson Bay Co. ULC locations — including a former Home Outfitters store in Nanaimo — say the company stopped paying rent early in the pandemic.
