The incredible success of this message board is probably no small part of it.

Twitter probably had a lot to do with it, due to its importance.

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc is preparing to seek bankruptcy protection in coming weeks, people familiar with the matter said, following poor sales and an inability to compete with large online and big-box retailers.

The U.S. home goods retailer is considering skipping debt payments due Feb. 1, one of the sources said, a typical move distressed companies on the verge of bankruptcy take to conserve cash.

Shares of the retailer, once a category killer in products like small appliances and bed sheets, ended down 30 per cent on Thursday at $1.69 after the company said it expected to report a significant third-quarter loss and that there was substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.

Hello L. Kipper,
We are looking to reopen again in the Victoria area and we hope to to see you again soon!
I look forward to that day when we can serve you all again!
Until then keep up the fun!!
Ildiko, Store Manager.

i guess with that statement maybe they are just looking for a new place? which explains why there was no deals during the last close out date

Victoria may soon be host to a two-deck floating sauna at Ship Point in the Inner Harbour.

The public hearing for the proposal is tonight at 6:30pm, where council is scheduled to decide whether to give final approval to rezone the area for recreational usage and to kick off the development process.

The CEO of HAVN Saunas—which submitted the proposal along with Varm Experiences Ltd.—says he wants to provide more options for people to socialize that don’t revolve around booze.

“There needs to be more spaces that are designed and built with the purpose of captivating people, making it easier for people to connect with each other,” Nicholas Van Buren said.

That actually sounds noble.  But going to a somewhat remote spa or sauna (plus paying for parking once there) is probably pretty far down the list for most people, in terms of "socializing".  Yes, people get together for hot tub parties I suppose.   But not really strangers.  I don't know.   Maybe it'll be a big hit.

Worst inner harbour idea since the V2V.

Why can't out city just figure out a 5-year free space for a satellite art gallery.

And say, "listen, art gallery, you have 5 years to figure out how to make this thing permanent.  We are open to all ideas".  Corporate sponsors, memberships, even an additional tax to fund it.

We need more "stuff to do".  Especially since our museum got wrecked.

There must be tens of thousands of square feet of vacant retail space in the downtown core. Surely some of that could be used as satellite space for the AGGV.

The space that was vacated by the auction house comes to mind.  Part or all of Crystal Gardens.  The stores across the road.

I know, I know, some collections require expensive climate and lighting control to protect the works, well, maybe those can't come, or just come for a short time, keep rotating.

Put the John A. and Cook statues on display, and the Queen's head if found, they require no climate control.

So have we decided now that we can’t just be a city of alcohol-fuelled bars and restaurants, and call that entertainment?

It might be one thing if they were world class, or our visitors came from places with less.   But when most of our visitors come from the rest of BC and Washington, our bars and restaurants are not much to see.

The space where the spa is being constructed at Ogden Point would work better.

How dare you?

Lucky Bar should be world renowned, arguably the best place for a beer in pitch black, and the bathrooms in Cactus Club are still as mind-blowing today as they were 15 years ago, with that chair in the men’s bathroom and the mini tvs playing clips of that sportscaster with plastic surgery.

I think the Cactus Club opened around 2003 by the way.  Time flies.

They never really committed to this, or else we'd have a casino downtown  :(

Oh yeah. We sure tried though. Then we rejected it. Then we embraced it if it had included First Nations. Then we rejected it again.

Maybe this floating sauna will become a floating casino.

Have you seen the crowds at your average casino??

There needs to be some minimum level of clothing required.  It's incompatible with the spa idea.

(although I like the idea of an ambient casino, with slot machines that play subtle rainfall sounds and whale noises when you win the jackpot)

You never know. From what I seem to recall, the FN lands at Rock Bay are fee simple but the FN has said that they are going to treat it like treaty land and do whatever they want regardless of what the City has to say (as if the City would say anything anyways).

On that basis I thought that a casino would be a shoe in but they seem to be more interested in commercial leases at this point.
