Anyone know what the deal is with the exposed rings of the new bridge? Has the exposed element been simplified, removed from public access, or what's changed, exactly? I know we spoke at length about the vulnerability of the original design.
Know it all.

Unless things have changed again...

^ I guess someone realized that a walkway in the centre axis would prevent the bridge span from being lifted fully. Imagine if they hadn't have caught that one!

Ever since folks have been pitching tents in strange places that has put the kibosh on access to the delicate gear rings.
That fantasy access was only a selling point.

Weird. I swear I made a post about that this morning.
Anyhoo, I've noticed the City has installed electronic sign boards to alert motorists of pending closures. I suppose this also means the installation is two weeks behind schedule.
Know it all.

Concrete ballast is right. The pedestrian walkway is also progressing nicely. I didn't realize how much of a downward slope there would be going from west to east. I guess that's to meet up with the DFW on the east and the walkway through the rings which of course no longer exists.

Some ballast in the counterweight?
I would have thought they would have put the ballast in after they had attached it to the other parts over at the pier.

Interesting that the above bridge has only been under construction about 2 years longer than the JSB replacement...
...The 55-kilometre (34 mi) link is expected to cost 110 billion yuan ($15.9 billion)...[and] would be among the world's longest... Construction formally began on 15 December 2009... the construction of the main 29.6-kilometre (18.4 mi) structure, both the 22.9-kilometre (14.2 mi) bridge section and the 6.7-kilometre (4.2 mi) undersea tunnel, was formally declared complete on 7 July 2017... the project is at least a year late and now is due to be completed in December [2017] and open to vehicular traffic in 2018...

End of "next month" has come and gone. Huggett must be waiting for the right time to break the news.

“Every time I have come up with a solution, I’ve made the determination that it’s too expensive and it needs to be rethought,” he said.
Huggett said he hopes to come back to council with fendering options at the end of next month.

If I've got the right tug boat, according to Marine Traffic, the Ocean Monarch pulling the Dynamic Beast will arrive in Victoria Harbour ~12:45am.
