I don't know if you can suggest that the bridge is malfunctioning based solely on the article.

It's a matter of degrees I guess.

I'd bet the gaffer tape wasn't applied to make something just "look" better, and is indeed "fixing" something that's broken.

After Mr Esquimalt's timeless classic, there is another rap video shot in downtown Victoria and featuring our new bridge

Our bridge appears to be a hit among the rapper community

Nice aerials. Gateway Green and the west side of Blanshard between Pandora and Cormorant really need redevelopment. They're big pieces of the puzzle, but maybe it wasn't quite so obvious before now.

I think the proper way to do it is to yell out 'parkour' while jumping over things?

Maybe the Victoria Symphony needs to take the bridge over for a night of Baroque on the Bridge.

The bridge is still working, yes? But the city of Victoria is baroque because of it?

Are we absolutely positive that the structure could support a full orchestra?*

*I kid. Relax.

I expect a rap on the knuckles for that.

I was assuming people would expect a hilarious play on words re: the bridge itself being baroque, so I tried to take it in another direction. I hope that came across.*

*unintended bridge reference

Mad Child was part of the original Swollen Members, Victoria's first rap band to achieve some success.

Don't be so sure.

And they were good buds with Nellie Furtado...remember the song, Breathe, that they collaborated on?

The work is estimated to cost more than $2 million and the city would like to have the work completed by the end of November this year.

lol

Thankfully I didn't see the word 'iconic' anywhere in the rehabilitation project, but it's still early in the project.

They're busy working on the (s)troll path under the bridge.

Note the "leased" sticker on the Janion commercial space. It will be an interesting location and much more visible/discoverable once the path is complete.

Thou shall not pass...

When they first opened the southern pedestrian walkway that provided access to the observation deck, there was no gate or barrier.  They quickly added a portable steel grate that spanned the width of the walkway and attached it whenever they wanted to block access to the observation deck.  I recall that grate being used to close the deck 24/7 for many days following the skateboarding incident.  We now have version 2.0, a formidable permanent solution that is intended to keep everyone out of the observation deck area after hours.  It also matches the robust security door to the control room / bascule pier in its aesthetics and "shininess".

Another carbuncle add-on to a bridge that is looking more and more patched-together and designed on the fly.

The Johnson St. Bridge has gone dark this evening, save for the two street lights in the middle of the bridge.  The blue bridge lights, and more importantly the pedestrian path lighting is usually on all night.  VicPD has been contacted.

Are the lights back on? Can't tell because the City's webcam isn't working.
