There's a little bit of talk on nachos in this thread.

As for French onion soup, I actually don't mind Tim Horton's take on it when its available.

The Four Mile has good french onion soup.

Well, The Keg has both nachos and French onion soup. I don't know if they're the best, but they're decent. Especially when they're half priced.

Brasserie l'ecole is king of french onion soup in town as far as I know.

Nachos?? I've always like Swan's for pub fare.

OK all this talk of food made me hungry....so I went to Boston Pizza for lunch today and had their French Onion Soup. Pretty darned tasty to me. Nicely done on the Salamander, a couple of kinds of cheese, and hotter than a two dollar pistol.

I honestly think French Onion soup is really easy to make, doesn't take long and tastes the best I've had. Here is a link to my favourite.

Thanks for the suggestions, ever since i went to france i just cant find a good french onion soup. Bon Rouge is good, the elephant castle in van was good, but the boston pizza one does not work for me! I think i'll be making some!

I'll have to second The Keg's nachos, particularly after 9PM when all appy dishes are 50% off. I've yet to have a bad plate of nachos (you know what I'm talking about, unmelted cheese in the middle, the ingredients are not spread out properly, etc).

The Keg also gives you free salsa, quacamole and sour cream. For around $5 you just can't beat that.

Just returned from Fort McMurray and ate at Boston Pizza 4 days in a row.

You are correct, the French Onion soup is not the quality one would search for when the cravings are high.

This is not a complicated dish....having said that there are some fantastic recipes out there for the do it your self chef.

Anyone care to share the secret their mother gave up?
