Green Cuisine lists all the ingredients in their dishes, so the person can see if they're allergic to anything. It's cafeteria style, and there's a decent selection. Each time I've been there, I spent about $17 for lunch, as the food is paid by weight (most of it, anyways).

CrossRoads Bar & Grill in Colwood is a pub style eviroment that offers a full GF menu. New menu being launched this weekend and a new menu at the sister restaurant, the KnockanBack Grill (in Saanich), will be launched in the next couple of days as well.

I think it's fair to say that most any restaurant of a decent calibre (the usual suspects) who make everything in house, from scratch, would be more than able to accommodate a celiac, or any other food sensitivity as a matter of course, and in fact probably deal with food allergies/sensitivities multiple times on a daily basis.

It is best if you can phone ahead and speak to any manager, and make your phone conversation known when you come in to dine.

more often then not we get a blank look from the waiter/waitress..or told they are working towards it,the biggest problem is cross contamination ,as even crumbs on the prep surface is a problem..so a restaurant that is doing celiac cooking is generally displaying a notice ...

I think you might have more luck if you skip the server and go straight for the manager. Lots of 'family' style or CFD restaurants are less likely to entertain your concerns as these sorts of places tend to make much less product by hand, from scratch in house and therefore have less control over what happens to the food they serve and often employ less professional people than some of your mid or higher range restaurants.

as everyone says, Garricks Head will be putting a few menu items together. we do however have a gluten free beer inthe bottle.LOL it is Bards and pretty tasty.
the problem is it is very hard as said to do it propperly. with cross contamination.
I am a type 1 diabetic, and have never seen a menu for us?

A guest phoned on Tuesday, asked if they could have a vegan/gluten free lunch so when they came in today it was no surprise. They
mentioned it to the host, who passed it on to my saucier, who passed it on to me.

Sherry braised de Puy lentils, marinated roasted vine tomato, toasted hazelnut and frisee salad, roasted morel mushroom vinaigrette, $18. They had some good feedback!

These were all items we have on hand right now for other applications, so it was a snap to put together. It pays to call ahead!

That's genuinely good service right there!

I find, though, that I rarely plan ahead before heading out for dinner. It's more of a spontaneous outing than one that's planned even more than a few hours in advance. My girlfriend is a little touchy with gluten so we often have to figure stuff out as we go, but normally there is an offering or two that she can try. What helps, though, are markings some restaurants are starting to put on their menus that indicate GF for gluten-free.

Oh, and The Joint Pizza is now offering a huge range of gluten-free pizza and baked goods. They're definitely going to tap a market that doesn't have a great deal of choice at the moment.

When I think "cafe" I usually think lunch or afternoon tea/coffee, not dinner. But I'm one part English so maybe it's different?

I recommend using Celiac Scene site.
http://www.theceliac...e.com/index.php
Good for Victoria, or if you're traveling.
More restaurants are proactively registering to appear here. I think it started out as a site for patrons to comment/recommend restaurants as to their celiac friendliness (or not)
I'll echo the good review of The Joint for pizza.
I know Old Spaghetti has a limited menu of gluten free dishes. they use corn flour pasta.
(I've been celiac for just a few months, so I haven't tried many)

I have a friend who (just recently) can no longer wheat and dairy, eating out is difficult. These dishes sound wonderful, which is your restuarant Matt. Thanks.
