I was a screening of Dirt, The Movie in Fernwood on Tuesday evening. While I was there I was introduced to a group called Transition Town.
They are a group that seems to want to work on the practical changes to a society less dependent on oil.
I have joined and will see if it is useful or relevant. I fear it may be a bit too old school left (hatred of capitalism and private business) for me.

Yeah, sadly most of those groups offer no solutions other than "Like, totally stop all consumerism man, it's evil. Everyone should just have an organic garden and only buy food within 10 meters of their home. Any other solutions aren't pure enough so we'll fight against them!"
