Because Edmonton is not likely to suck all season... so it's quite the race.

Horvat is already a top centreman in the NHL...

^ yup.
I hope they can resign the Sedin's for a nice 2 mill each, 1 year contract. Or 2 years, 1.5 mill per year. They'll be solid 3rd liners as long as they stay healthy.

The playing career of Canucks tough guy Derek Dorsett appears to be over.
In a release, the Vancouver Canucks say the 30-year-old forward "will not return to the Canucks active roster due to health reasons and risks associated with playing."
Dorsett underwent cervical disc herniation surgery in December of 2016 and surprised many when he was cleared to play again at the start of this season.
The surgery left both his arms numb for a time. Doctors went in through the front of his neck, moving aside vocal chords to remove a disk while replacing it with a graft taken from his hip bone.

Congrats to Danny!
So Brock Boeser has as many points as Sid Crosby and Alex Ovechkin (25, and in 3 fewer games!).

And still leads all rookies.

Boeser named Rookie of the Month after leading all NHLers with 11 goals (16 points) in 15 GP in November.

Horvat might be out 6 weeks.
BREAKING: NHL expansion process open to Seattle: Bettman
The expansion will reportedly cost $650 million, and if an expansion team is ultimately located in Seattle it will not be until the 2020-21 season. Details in Sports at :15 and :45 past the hour.
Seattle makes alot of sense.

The league has obviously been waiting for the arena situation in Seattle to sort itself out for quite some time. Seattle makes so much sense in so many ways. The only surprise is it has taken this long.
The bigger question I have is how many teams will survive in their current locations in the medium-term? Arizona seems to be hanging on by a thread. Attendance in Florida is horrible, and has been horrible for 20 years. I have no idea how they hang on there. Columbus has a great team and still doesn’t fill their arena. The Islanders and Hurricanes also have just horrid attendance numbers.

Hurricanes were sold today (pending NHL board of governors approval). A condition of the sale is the team staying in Raleigh.

So can we conclude at this point that Edmonton does indeed suck?

Baertschi is now out 4-6 weeks with a broken jaw.
Is this when the wheels fall off? No Horvat or Baertschi for the next 6 weeks is a major problem. This season is seemingly at a crossroads.

And Sutter and Gudbranson are out (And Dorsett's injury retirement). They're going to be hard pressed to kill a penalty, win a faceoff, or score. I would expect them to play about .350 hockey for the next couple of weeks.Baertschi is now out 4-6 weeks with a broken jaw.

I think that will firmly put Vancouver out of a playoff spot.

So the Golden Knights are 21-9-2, good for 4th place tie in the league at 44 points.
That's great!
Canucks visit LV on Friday, Feb 23rd.
Its neat to see on the Vegas website, when you look at the schedule, each date has a tickets link, and a hotel partners link.

Boeser is out.
Ugh, and it was not pretty how he left the ice. Crawling, and just pushing off with one skate as he slid to the bench on all fours.
Here it is on video.
