In an effort to encourage a style of architecture that I think currently makes sense for Victoria
(as well as the whole Pacific Northwest), I decided to create a thread about it.

I've been calling this style "West Coast Contemporary" because I'm not sure it has any other name,
and I've seen a few architects refer to it by this name. "West Coast Contemporary" is a very vague
name though, and I wish there was something more original to call it. Also, I'm not sure it's entirely
accurate to call it contemporary, since I've seen some similarities to styles that were built years ago.
The "West Coast" part of the name seems to be somewhat accurate to me though, since I haven't
seen this style being built in many other parts of the world. If anyone knows more about this
style and it's history, feel free to post about it.

Common features I've noticed are:

- Sloped roof
- Large exposed wood beams/rafters (usually Glulam)
- Big windows

An example of this style would be the Tsawwassen Quay Market at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal

This thread wouldn't be complete without the Brentwood Bay Lodge

There's a building being built at UBC right now that looks like a barn, and on the side of it is an
extension in the West Coast Contemporary style.

A strange combination of architectural styles.

Great pix. This concept brings to mind the recent expansions and renovations to the Victoria Internatinal Airport (YYJ). The departures gate area seem to really utilize this style to full effect.

These are great pics. And I do love this style but I am not sure I would want a whole city of them. But 2 or 3 towers in this style would be awesome. I would hazard to say that the new portion of the Monaco lofts fits into this style as well. Granted it is only one floor but it does seem very similar.

It has a whole new look!
