Carl facts:

  • Carl is the second most popular attraction in Central Saanich after Butchart Gardens.
  • Carl is the most popular of all the Carl Jensens in local municipal politics.
  • Carl will boycott Wharfside until all employees are paid and tourists apologized to.
  • Carl originated the slogan, "The Rent Is Too Damn High".
  • Carl has not responded to Chuck Norris's friend reequest because he is too busy meeting the people.

Ignore the haters!
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

Dude, not hating at all - helping, if anything. Also:
  • Carl Jensen doesn't always drink beer. But when he does, he prefers Dos Equis.

Feel free to post about stuff other than your self-interests. Perhaps respond to some threads that have nothing to do with you or CS - like restaurants, local developments in other municipalities, or if you can bring some value by sharing (public) information that the masses may not otherwise be aware. It will make you seem like a real person, as opposed to a politician.

I certainly agree with this viewpoint, but I do think it is fair to note that, for better or worse, lots of people here post things in a semi-anonymous fashion that they would in fact not post if they were public servants using their real names.

I'm in favor of encouraging the various local politicians to fully participate on VV and take advantage of the forum offered, but it is not a level playing field and that should be considered.

Built up frustration can also spill over when the public gets a chance to debate an issue one-on-one with a politician. We've seen this here many times where easy going and conscientious contributors can lose their cool when a politician rears his or her head. This can be intimidating to individuals with little experience with live and candid social media that transcends the political correctness dogging debate in this day and age.

I am confused as to why a council membershould feel an obliagation to be on here. Yeah it's nice, but being on here could end being a part time job. All the endless questions and debates. Not to mention there's bound to a a citizen or two not happy about something. An individual with a beef could make a council member's life a living hell.

Besides, I'm sure if anyone had questions or concerns for Carl here he would have addressed them here. After all, he did respond to Bob's criticisms immediately.

The only reason Isitt has been active is because there were discussions and criticisms about him that he felt the need to address. His role on VV is no better than Jenson's.

That's right. I don't think it is a time to start complaining about the participation of councillors, especially the new ones who are getting up to speed on the issues.

If other members or I don't participate on this forum nobody really cares, so if we make council members life a "living hell", we could loose their input in the future.

All fair points, gumgum. It's quite possible that my expectations for local politicians are too high. You're right - no ought to be obligated to post on here. At the same time, if they only come around when it's in their self-interest, people like me will catch on and may not be so receptive the next time around. Based on the related thread on this issue, I am not alone in my sentiment - although it is by no means the only sentiment. I just put out an observation, we've all discussed it and (feel free to buy me a beer one day, Carl) there's no such thing as bad press.

Sure, but if that were the test there'd be a whole Pam Madoff section. I'm willing to grade on the curve and thank the ones who do show up to address criticism.

I'm a little confused. Would we expect councillors to leave signs up year round? Would we expect them to go to public debates and go for endless interviews day in and day out after the election?

What about the failed candidates, no critcism of them for "abandoning" VV?

Carl did what he needed to do to get elected, now he gets judged by what he does in office, not how he performs in a debate or on a forum, you can't expect them to work 20 hour days all year.

If any elected official has time to post on here take it as a bonus.
Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.
