I wish this forum allowed me to repeat the things I really think about Lisa Helps. Suffice to say she is the worst mayor the CoV has ever had.

A province-wide advertising campaign launched today, encouraging considerate etiquette on board BC Transit buses, including the wearing of face coverings (for those who have no medical issues that prevent them from doing so). The tag line “Together we ride” reminds riders that safety is a collaborative effort and endeavors to foster an environment where riders are courteous and respectful.
The campaign uses a range of mediums to reach BC Transit’s diverse audiences across the province—a 30-second television commercial, bus exterior and interior ads, social media and print advertising. The campaign will run for a period of eight weeks.
A contesting component is also featured, where B.C. residents have the opportunity to win one of eight rider prize packs that includes a BC Transit face mask, custom running shoes and a one-year transit pass for the transit system in their community. Details and full contest rules are on BC Transit’s website.
Although the wearing of face coverings is not currently mandatory, it can help promote a more comfortable transit experience for all as select sectors open up and people gradually return to engaging in some of the activities they did prior to the start of the pandemic.
Following the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC, and drawing on the best practices of the transit industry worldwide, BC Transit has implemented additional safety measures to respond to COVID-19. Our practices and procedures also align with BC’s Restart Plan.

Somewhere I was reading comments on twitter (sorry, can't remember where!), some guy said "Helps is the best mayor ever". I always think, they're either 16 years old or just moved here and didn't know Victoria when it was a nice place to be.

Passenger hassles driver, vigilante takes charge and yells him right out the door. Warning: start to finish swearing.

Wearing masks will be mandatory August 24
So a generous supply of free masks will be made available on board the buses?

It's a moot point for me, because you couldn't pay me to take BC Transit.

Here's the release:
BC Transit to mandate use of face coverings
BC Transit, in alignment with TransLink and other transportation agencies, will be proceeding with mandatory use of face coverings on buses in BC Transit communities across the Province as of August 24.
Accommodations will be permitted for children under the age of 5 and those that cannot wear a face covering for health reasons.
We recognize the advice from health professionals, including Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, has been to wear face coverings when physical distancing is not possible including on transit vehicles. Customers have indicated making the use of face coverings mandatory will create a more comfortable environment.
While face coverings will be mandatory, the policy will be implemented as an educational step without enforcement. The educational position is aligned with TransLink and other transit agencies in Canada.
We will work hard to ensure customers are aware of our new policy over the coming weeks, and work together to make transit a comfortable environment for staff and customers.
The Together We Ride campaign continues across the province, promoting the need to work together to make the transit journey comfortable for customers. Details are available here: bctransit.com/together-we-ride
BC Transit and our local government partners are working on plans to hand out promotional face coverings later this summer. Stay tuned for more details!

Quotes
“Transit is an important service for many British Columbians. BC Transit's decision to make masks mandatory on their vehicles will help make transit safer for fellow passengers. Find one that's comfortable, and make time to get used to wearing them and taking them on and off as needed. Those of us who are able should be using masks on transit all the time. I do and I expect others to as well.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
“Across British Columbia, our response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been rooted in public health. Public transit continues to be an essential service that people rely on, and we appreciate the work of our transit operators to keep these services running throughout the pandemic response and recovery. Knowing your fellow bus passengers will also be wearing a non-surgical mask or face covering will help boost people’s confidence in choosing transit while contributing to a welcoming and safe environment on our buses.”
Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena
“The implementation of a mandatory mask policy is in response to feedback from our customers. I am pleased to have the support of TransLink, Dr. Bonnie Henry and the Province of BC to implement this policy that will make transit more comfortable for our customers.”
Erinn Pinkerton, BC Transit President and Chief Executive Officer

Weren't they locked into a contract or something? While I think January and February paint the project as a failure I don't think June stats should really matter since where were kids bussing? To school 1 day a week? Nothing else was really open at that point that kids would be interested in.

Also note the projected drop of 40% in fuel tax revenues. Transit gets 5.5 cents from every litre.
