If Choux Choux weren't so pricey I would do a LOT of shopping there; as it is I save my pennies and purchase only for special occasions.:muching_out:

A little further out of town, but the folks at Charelli's run an amazing deli - not as expensive as some others around town either. Cheese, sandwiches, all the usuals. Great stuff. The place is just packed with awesome food.

This may have been mentioned before, but the Italian Importers on Blanshard should not be missed either.

Matt I am looking for some pickled herring. Any thoughts on who might do them fresh?

I wonder if maybe the Jewish community centre on Shelbourne makes these? I know they have/had a nice little deli in there in recent memory. Otherwise phone Finest at Sea and see what they say.

If you're out in Sidney you could try Taste of Europe Deli at 9767 4th St. between Beacon and Bevan.

Last time I was there they had several kinds of pickled and smoked fish that looked store-made.

If you happen to be looking for something as strange as Egg Nog in October, Safeway has you covered.

^Yep, saw the nog at Thrifty yesterday.

As long as we're counting European delis, there's one way out on Shelbourne past University Heights.

Silk Road or Davids Teas should sell them.

I see Thrifty Foods doesn't seem to have stuffed chickens anymore.

We were at the Root Cellar yesterday.....man was that place hopping. I especially like their cashier set up. I wished I had grabbed a pic for you all.

I'm looking for a place where I can get kombucha drinks. Health food stores normally charge ~$4 a bottle. Pretty steep. I would like to by in in packs of 6 or 12.

Thanks in advance.

Kombucha is normally something hippies make for themselves.

You probably need a "starter" or some such thing.

You can make it yourself, even if you're not a hippy, but I was hoping to avoid this seeing as I am lazy. It's very easy to find in stores if you want to buy it by the bottle. I'm hoping to get it by the case and save a few bob.
