Sukhi graduated from UBC’s faculty of pharmaceutical sciences in 1975, and became the director of pharmacy at Victoria’s Priory Hospital. A dedicated teacher to pharmacy students, in 1996 he also opened an independent pharmacy practice in downtown Victoria. “Although I live in Langford, I have travelled to the City of Victoria almost every day since 1976,” says Sukhi. “I’m running for council in Victoria because many of my friends have stopped coming downtown. They say it is dirty, that they do not feel safe. I bring my caring experience, and the ability to make good business decisions, to debate and vote on decisions that affect the City of Victoria. I believe that the business community, the labor unions, and all other community groups must collectively use their resources to make Victoria the place we want it to be.”

Sounds like a good fellow but I have reservations about so much of our city being run by people who don't live in it.

Lalli is a resident of Langford, is he not?

And as a busy business owner, would he have the time and resources to commit himself fully to the responsibilities of councillor?

And not to judge a candidate by something as simple as participation on this forum, but if his two running mates (McGrew and Hall) commit time to connect with the visitors here, why hasn't Lalli made the effort?

Know it all.

Yes - but he is a non-resident business owner (might own the building, too - but I'm not totally sure). Likely, he's in a triple net situation if he's leasing, so either way, he's got skin in the game - unlike someone like Marianne Alto, who is a government consultant who works out of her home - in Saanich.

My understanding is that Sukhi is transitioning the day-to-day operations of his pharmacies to his daughter. So, l think he might have at least as much time as many incumbents.

As for his participation on here, I don't think he has all that much of a web presence in general. If I were to guess (based on my own experience) immigrants in that age group are a little behind in their web savvy. My father, for example, didn't really start understanding the Internet until post-retirement. Even then, he's not blogging or setting websites (although he does get Il Facebook).

I used to have the same kinds of reservations until I started paying close attention to the lousy job being done by those who live in Victoria, ie fortin, madoff, lucas and all. They have shown no more of an inclination to do right for the taxpayers of Victoria.

I think Sukhi is an excellent candidate and if enough business owners get out and vote he should have a good chance of being elected. I will vote for him.
