What streets are you referring to?

Many of the residents are happy with some of the roads that have a country feel. They don't want sidewalks or the removal of trees to widen the road and make it more of a speedway. Oak Bay also has many back lanes, that are just fine.

Because much of Oak Bay is bounded by the ocean, there is less traffic speeding through the neighbourhoods to get to the next municipality.

The issue isn't the back lanes, or the roads that "have a country feel", it is about the roads that are degrading in their current state. I definitely don't support any road widening.

Which roads?

Which roads?

Many of the roads around where I live (North of Cadboro Bay Rd, south of Lansdowne) have places where the road has cracked into dozens of pieces, and is just waiting for a good frost heave or heavy truck to pull out one of those pieces, and then we will have a pothole the size of a small car.

That's the Carnarvon Park area and I have seen no potholes there that are ready to swallow small cars. What does need doing is fixing is all the sidewalks made of ashphalt that continue to sink lower than the cement curbs, and are tripping hazzards for the seniors out walking.

As an aside, one of the things that impresses me about Oak Bay is how quickly the illegal postings are removed from the telephone poles.

There aren't potholes now, but there are massive areas around there (and other parts of Victoria and Saanich) that have fully fragmented pavement where a pothole is only a matter of time, and not much of that. The issue is that left too long, these kinds of issues can quickly cost a great more than if they were dealt with now.

As for sidewalks, we absolutely need to replace as many asphalt as possible. I know the engineering dept has made headway into mapping where they are, but I don't know if they have completed it. I would love to see a map of Oak Bay showing current sidewalk surface and current state.

I don't live in Oak Bay, but if I did, I'd vote for Corey. I like how he responded here. Lots of snarkyness that he ignored, but clear answers to the questions that he got.

Whether we think Oak Bay should be amalgamated or not, fact is, it is a municipality and under the current system it needs councillors, who certainly aren't doing it for the money. Lets give Corey credit for being a young, informed person who wants to contribute and participate.

It doesn't mean much to some people, but I'm proud (as a Rotarian) to say that he's active in his Rotary club, helping raise funds for local and international community service projects.

Thanks Pieta. I decided when I ran next that I would say what I thought and why I thought it. If that loses me votes, I would rather somebody vote for me knowing what they are getting than the opposite.

I think if you hold to that you'll get my vote!

The challenge comes in the thing you didn't see coming three years ago. Oak Bay Lodge is one example here in Oak Bay.

Congratulations Corey on a campaign well run. You weren't able to take one of the seats on council, but I think you proved to many that a younger person can be accepted by the Oak Bay electorate in beating three of your challengers. Your position in the unofficial poll reminds me of Rob Randall's 2008 finish, as he put it First of the Losers!. Not bad considering the large gap between the last person elected and yourself.

Agreed. I'd argue that you are in a much different (higher) tier than the other also rans.

Thanks. I have been getting a lot of great comments from people. I fully intend to run again in three years, but there is a lot of good community work I can get done in the meantime.
