^ The purchase of the Safeway stores meant they had to keep the Safeway stores open. What's your opinion on how long that caveat is over them? If sales don't support keeping a store, could they now close the old Safeway, or close a old SaveOn close by on an attempt to increase foot traffic?

They'll close the Tillicum store before ever touching Vic West, I'd say.

As I stated in the Uptown Thread, I have hears sales are down 40% alone at the Tillicum Store. I can totally see them shuttering the older format stores here in Vic and keeping the Safeway bigger box formats. the two stores (Vic West and Saanich) leased by one of the smaller chains (Country Grocer, QF).

I wonder if a reason for that was abolishing the Air Miles program. Seriously. Many moms take Air Miles very seriously.

They used to give out points that could be used to reduce the cost of your groceries if you saved enough to make it worthwhile.

I prefer Air Miles where I can use the miles for flights and hotels, which is a better value and more flexible for our needs.

I thought Thrifty switched to Air Miles, like Sobeys.

They switched to Air miles in the Fall. Thrifty Foods is owned by Sobeys

Thrifty's has never been as generous as Safeway was with AirMiles.

Yup it used to be possible to rack up tons of air miles buying cat food and stuff. It'd often be worth it to buy the cat food and then just give it away.

Save-on-Foods has introduced a delivery service in the Greater Victoria area. They can deliver your groceries, or you can order your groceries online with pick-up at the store, free of charge. There is a promo right now where your first delivery is free.

It's really nothing new, it's just that the shopping part is hard online.

No of course, but for Save-On's it is. Thrifty's has been offering home delivery for a long, long time.

What bugs me is that while every item in the grocery store is recorded in the computer, you can't go to their website and look anything up.  You get the flyers and a few recipes.

Does Walmart have everything online now, for food?

The one I wish would put their food online is Costco.

I just wish Costco's stores and website matched.

If you want to know what Costco's price is subtract 15% from the Accio price.

And yes, we walked down every aisle and took a photo of every price tag. It took a while.

Does Costco care that you are doing that? I mean they are losing out on member fees...
