Meanwhile it messed up home buying plans of untold volumes of people.

This absolutely reeks of politicking ahead of the election.

^ Yes but according to page 2 the trains between Turkey and Iran are running again after 4 years. That surely will increase the Air B&B potential.

LOS ANGELES — As this city tries to cope with thousands of people living on the streets, a few homeless and low-income senior citizens will be luckier than most next year.

They will receive keys to one of 72 new apartments, complete with a fitness center, in the heart of trendy Koreatown, built at a projected cost of $690,692 for each unit, according to the city controller's office. Two additional projects in the pre-approval phase are expected to top $700,000 per unit in total costs.

Holy cow! I would be willing to bet that those units will go to people with friends in the right place. Hopefully I’m wrong...

‘I’m running out of hope’: Langford mother desperate for affordable housing

After applying to 180 homes, Renee has still come up empty

https://www.vicnews....rdable-housing/

ok what you need to do is give your kids temporarily over to friends family or the ministry then get a job.

A hiking incident from a few years back also left Renee unable to work.

that's the crux of the problem.  you refuse to work.

Article says "unable", where do you get "refuse" from?

I will admit that it seems that most stories of hardship that make it to the media include a work-precluding injury somewhere along the way.

What is confusing is her comment that she is unable to work yet she is taking courses on starting her own health and nutrition business.

which probably suggests she is either mentally capable of work or she's delusional.

a hiking accident a "a few years ago" should not keep you from work unless it was a head (brain) injury.

this woman wants society (read:  you and i) to take care of her and her kids beyond the dollars per month she now receives.  it's garbage.

Do the kids not have a father?

from a technical point of view i think they most likely do.  immaculate conception as a theory has been debunked.

here's the problem.  she has latched on to a disability welfare payment.  she does not want to give that up.  government officials are unlikely to strip that from her even if she's no longer disabled.   meanwhile her poor kids suffer from mom being extremely reckless.

I think there is definitely some info missing or incorrect in this story as a mother with three kids would be prioritized for housing.
Also, with disability, IA and child benefits and maybe some child payments from the father(s), one would think that she should have a good enough, totally guaranteed income to get housing.

A friend on disability just got into social housing where he’ll be paying 1/3 of his disability payments as rent. He acquired that residence within a four week span between applying and receiving the keys (yesterday).

There has to be far more to the story.

i suppose there is the possibility that she has no idea who the father(s) is.  so can't collect support.  but that just means she should be stripped of the kfds for being so reckless.

There has to be far more to the story.

of course there is.  she has supportive parents why are they not helping with at least a place to stay if not money?  this story stinks.  we have a super generous safety net.  if you accept it.

Perhaps the purpose of the article is to get them moved up the list so that they get housing faster.

From what I understand, affordable housing is allocated based on need and political pressure. If you are some poor schmuck working a minimum wage job, contributing to society and waiting patiently for the system to find accommodation for you then you better not be holding your breathe.

As a mother with three kids living in a tent, I think this would have put her at the top of the list automatically.

the reporter also earns minimum wage we should not expect much.
