It's not that bad now, but the fires have definitely impacted the cost of lumber and plywood.

A decade ago the runup in construction costs was totally insane.

As I posted in another thread lumber prices haven't been affected because of the fire, plywood prices have however

If the Green Party has any influence in government, their own housing platform included:

 

- Taxing the gain on the sale of your principal residence

- Increasing the property transfer tax to 12% 

- A sharp reduction to those who qualify for a home owner grant - to zero

- A 30% tax on foreign buyers in BC

 

Why would a Realtor support such moves???

- $3 million plus would KILL the investment market - Below $3 million it still escalates - it would kill the market - most Green supporters don't know this

- $570 is a big deal - it's an incredible increase in your property tax - why should anyone support this anyhow?

- So why have the tax?

 

Anyway, I made my point.  We cannot afford to vote for the destruction of the real estate industry.  I vote for free enterprise

Yea....in excess of $750,000.  You would have to buy a home for $750,000 and sell it for >$1,500,000.

 

Foreign buyer tax in Vancouver killed the market? Average working Joe still can't afford a condo or townhome. You North Burnaby special is now $1.8 million instead of $2 million, great.

 

None of these things would influence the market that much.
