The Pizza Pieman was owned by Bob Darnell and his first shop was in the Town and Country shopping centre in the late 60's. Great guy with a lot of vision. He had quite an empire of shops for a while until he over extended his finances.
He ended up working for the Development bank that financed his operations.
I always wondered what the situation was with the shop on Tillicum that sported his logo long after he filed for bankruptcy.
I can't remember the entire story, but I used to work with a guy who's family actually started the Pizza Pieman chain. He told me how Bob Darnell got invovled, but I can't remember the details. It didn't start here in Victoria according to the guy I used to work with, but over on the mainland or in Alberta or something along those lines. Anyhow he worked there when he was a teenager when his family started it, and I think they eventually sold the whole thing to Bob or Bob married into his family, Something like that.
