The crisis could have a bigger impact on households than the 2008 financial crisis, according to consultancy Baringa Partners. The bleak warning comes as bills are set to surge roughly 80% from October, just as the arrival of colder weather boosts energy demand.

The bosses of companies owning almost half of the UK’s 47,000 pubs said tenants were already giving notice because they could not cope with energy bills, which are due to rise more than fivefold in some cases.

Unlike households, businesses do not benefit from a cap on what suppliers can charge for gas and electricity, leaving many firms facing oblivion without state intervention.

I’m no expert, but can’t you build an LNG import port in about 3 months, if you REALLY had to?

I watch hours of UK news every week. Everyone agrees this problem is coming, but nobody has great answers, including the new PM that will be sworn in on Tuesday.

Our average electricity price in 2011 was a little over 11 cents.

Hawaii and Canada are so similar in terms of geography, climate and population. It's the perfect jurisdiction for us to emulate.

Like with housing (locking developable land, building code changes, net-zero), the good intentioned are going to walk us straight into an energy affordability crisis, and fight for it.

It’s like the tobacco industry. It’s doing great since only two companies have an airtight monopoly because any new players can’t market themselves (pun intended). They sell less for more money with way less overhead. This is why Altria can pay an 8% dividend.

Yes, that’s what I’m saying.

Hydro prices are going to rise 4.8% compounded between 2023 and 2024. You can imagine, that since those costs were calculated some time ago, there could even be an emergency increase added, or 2025 and 2026 are going to compound into the double digits.

Solar power is fine in the summer months, but what about October-April?
