Our region, I tell ya. From 100% car-dependent Highlands sending letters to Big Oil asking them to pay for the muni's climate change-related costs, to Elizabeth May lamenting the loss of oil refineries in Canada, what could possibly be next?

The Greens Sonja Furstenau is not talking all that green about the Malahat. And go to Lake Cowichan for the weekend and see how many people drive SUVs and pickups. 75% of the locals and visitors do.

99% car-dependant Lake Cowichan loves its SUV's? What a shocker.

But yeah, Furstenau raising a stink over congestion on the Malahat is pretty good, too.

Yah but pipelines durrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!......

Honestly, I am still floored at those tweets from May. Just...wow...the national Green party is defending oil refineries. What angle won't they take to halt energy projects?

B.C. hires outside counsel to begin legal challenge of Trans Mountain pipeline project

B.C. has announced it has hired outside counsel to begin its legal challenge of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

On Thursday, B.C. Environment Minister George Heyman and Attorney General David Eby said the province has hired lawyer Thomas Berger to provide advice to the government.

Berger is a former Supreme Court justice.

At a time when billions of energy investment dollars are flooding out of the country, the NDP wants to kill TransMountain.

Wall pointed out that $34 billion in capital spending has moved from Canada to the U.S. since March 2016. “The price is the same in Texas. What’s different is the government approach and the increased risk,” he said.

It promises to be one of the most important political tilts between now and the election.

The government released a discussion paper containing the changes it is proposing and invited public comments – a process that ends this month. Officials will start writing the draft legislation in September.

In a speech to the Assembly of First Nations last month, Catherine McKenna, the Environment Minister, made clear that the Liberals intend to have the new system of regulation in place long before the 2019 election. “I like to think we’ll win but you never know,” she said, indicating how important to the Liberal legacy the changes are viewed. As one commentator stated, "all BC is doing is ragging the puck" being seen to do something and giving a friend a job when they know that they are going to lose.

I think the end game is to scare away KM and others by making dealing with BC so bloody difficult and painful they won't bother.

ABOUT THE PORT OF PRINCE RUPERT'S FAIRVIEW CONTAINER TERMINAL:

Fairview Container Terminal is located in Prince Rupert, on the West Coast of British Columbia. Operated by DP World (Canada) Inc., it was the first dedicated intermodal (ship-to-rail) container terminal in North America when it began operation in 2007, and has grown to become a major trans-Pacific trade gateway reputable for its speed and reliability.

The expanded terminal will include a second deep-water berth, three additional gantry cranes, and land reclamation to expand the container yard. On-dock rail capacity will also be expanded by densifying the current track configuration, which will be supported by a rubber-tired gantry crane operation.

The simplicity of Fairview Container Terminal's design and operations makes it one of the most efficient port terminals in North America. One terminal, one rail line, and direct on-dock rail access means more than speed – it means you can depend on the reliable delivery of your cargo.

Shippers using Prince Rupert to diversify their west coast supply routes have continued to increase their traffic here.  Discover why Fairview gives them confidence in Prince Rupert.

Fairview Container Terminal is a dedicated intermodal facility, purpose built to provide a high-velocity gateway for transpacific container trade. Operated by DP World, the terminal anchors the fastest and most reliable trade corridor on the west coast, providing shippers a significant advantage over alternative gateways.

The terminal features a single marine berth capable of accommodating 13,000 TEU container ships with direct and unimpeded access from international shipping lanes. On dock rail adjacent to the berth provides efficient intermodal operations in building trains of up to 12,000 feet.

Integrated scheduling and real-time communications between the shipping line, DP World and CN Rail result in unparalleled terminal velocity and seamless transfer of containers between vessel and train.

Served by CN Rail’s North American network, the Port of Prince Rupert has fast and efficient connections to central Canada and the US Midwest, saving shippers time and money.

City of Victoria sends sternly worded letter to big oil - give us damages money

MORE:

As is often the case, Young was the only one that pointed to the ridiculousness of the letter.  The letter tell the companies to stop selling the products.  Now, he said, imagine what would happen if the companies took them up on it, and stopped selling to the Island?

Young also said if they wanted to implement meaningful measures, the first thing they should do is give up free parking for councillors, then move to negotiate away free parking for all their staff.  Council was not interested in that idea.

CALGARY — A shift in global oil markets sentiment is under way, replacing decades of scarcity fears with confidence in surpluses, capping oil prices and forcing changes in the way the industry works, observers say.

“We’re moving from a mindset where oil was considered a scarce resource to one now where it’s more of a plentiful resource,” said Steve Reynish, executive vice-president of strategy and corporate development at Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU), speaking at a conference in Calgary last week.

Reynish said Canada has fallen behind the U.S. in pipeline and major resource project construction and needs to rework regulatory, political and environmental priorities.

Lupick said there’s plenty of demand in the world for that heavy oil but a lack of pipeline space means higher-priced railway cars will have to be employed to bring new barrels to market in the short term.
