We all know this area.
The Methodist Church on the Corner now the Alix Goolden Hall.
I was in the bell tower a couple weeks ago and there are more skeletal remains of Pigeons up there than at a chicken wing eating contest in Kentucky . They roost up there could hear many cooing.
The Bell Tower is a death trap surprised that its still erect.
OK back to the photo

Victoria Day 1918

The Building in the background is called The Kensington Apartments and Rooms
The address is 919 1/2 Pandora .
Currently the Our Place Shelter has the 919 address

Interesting picture. Any idea what organization the band represents? They seem to be young adult males wearing military-style uniforms but I have never seen the Australian slouch hat on Canadian troops. I would say some sort of cadet corps but the lack of flags is also strange for a military formation.

If it's Victoria Day, it must be one of the American High School marching bands.;)

If it's Victoria Day 1918, WWI is still raging. Maybe it's cadets?

It is highly unlikely that there were high school matching bands in that parade
All of the photos that I have seen of the parade in the 1920-1930 period had locals
Kids with decorated bikes menu on penny farthings local business floats,Freemasons etc

I asked the number one authority in Victoria or possibly Bc about the uniforms he said Austrailian for sure but could go no further than that

I'm not sure why Australians would be here instead of northern France but I bet the soldiers aren't complaining.

That Open Door building was only demolished less than a decade ago, I think.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

It was taken down when the new building was completed. For a short time they stood side by side, but then the old one was removed to make way for the courtyard of the new.

Was Victoria a transit at all for Australian troops on their way to or from the front?

It has a whole new look!
