I can see a Langford-Colwood-Highlands (maybe even Sooke) union, but I bet Metchosin wouldn't go for it. They seem to prefer being small & rural.

It would be a better name than Colwood of Langford, both of which 'honour' a man that was, to put it lightly, an asshole

I would agree with this. Metchosin seems to be trying to keep its rural character, which in my books is a good thing.

It would be a great step forward if the Westshore amalgamated. It would certainly put some pressure on other areas to do the same.

It has a whole new look!

Who?

Edward Langford - he needed a job and a friend found him a position operating a farm for the Puget Sound Agricultural Company. He benefited from being the nephew of Richard Blanchard. He came to Vancouver Island to managed the land that now covers most of the core of Colwood and Langford.

He was paid 60 pounds a year to manage the farm and in theory got 1/3 of the profits. He could not make the farm pay. 60 pounds a year was equal to $300 a year at the time and this was a very good upper middle class salary. He could not manage his own money and ended up broke.

He was also appointed a magistrate and was such a failure at that he had to be removed. He ended up in the courts several times for things he said and did.

He left Victoria in early 1861 in order not to end up in prison.

Langford is named for this man. Colwood is named for his house in England.
