So many idiots on the roads....I am in AWD + Winter tires and people blowing by my this am on the Pat Bay (which is completely covered in sections) in rwd Mustangs. If they had to slow down on a hill no way they get going again.

41 cm measured on my patio table this morning. More to come, too.

Busses running on main roads here, but side roads are untouched mostly.

so this morning they would have sort of held past 6:15am until they had enough crew?  and it never happened so they scrubbed the first roundtrip?

Went out for a drive yesterday to test out my new Nokian WRG 4 all weather tires (which grip like a hot damn) and saw three cars slide out of control taking modest corners because the drivers were simply terrible. No concept of slowing down or giving themselves more time and as soon as they start to lose grip, all three slammed on the brakes and just slid out of control.

Nokians are the best all weather tire available. Had them on a few prior cars and they rocked!

Yah I guess so, salt spring crew probably needed to let the plows catch up so they could get down there. The terminal is pretty busy all the time, so when we see snow like this the plow is usually down there just as the ferry unloads so people driving off the boat (and the bus) have a clear path into town.

A friend of my mom's used to live on Saltspring Island (now lives just north of Duncan). I remember her telling me of getting snowed in on the island because there was no or minimal road clearing happening (at least on Long Harbour Rd).

One time my mom and brother and I were going to visit the friend on Saltspring and overnight in he guest bedrooms, but we were warned off due to impending snowfall. Sure enough, the next day, friend was snowed in. We would have been stuck.

Ferry routes, incl long harbour, get priority for sure. Lots of the time the main roads are just fine, but getting to them can be impossible. Many people on side roads or hills just park their cars on the side of the main road and walk to and from home.

Crap, there's a G4 out now?  Guess I'm going to have to upgrade my G3!

They're pretty much the only true all-season tire that doesn't suck in the snow.  Biggest limitation is mediocre ice traction due to harder rubber that doesn't wear too fast in the summer.

Earlier today I got caught up in some ice on a roundabout and went straight for the curb, but luckily the tires regained traction just in time. It's sketchy out there, and now the snow is coming down hard again.

Goodyear is no longer supplying the Triple Tread (our last tire), so we have it's replacement the "Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady".  It uses soy bean oil in the rubber compound so it stays soft when cold and doesn't go too soft in the summer.  They replace a new set of Continental All Seasons that came with our 4x4 which were just OK in the snow.

Forecast from Weather Underground shows it snowing through until the early morning hours on Wednesday!

I was the 2nd car in line to turn left from Tillicum onto Hwy 1 N. Green light, pickup in front of me turned and my FWD car had zero traction on the icy slope. After a few attempts without moving at all I backed up into the empty oncoming lanes on Tillicum and took Burnside instead. A sanding truck was in the lineup of vehicles behind me.

They’re now calling for 15-25 cm and it’s snowing heavily here in View Royal. It’s going to be a short work day.

I went looking for the highway webcams and came across this page on the MoT website.  In addition to showing where the webcams, it shows current accident locations etc....  Hopefully the link works.

Due to the snow in the forecast, all sailings between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island after 5 p.m. today will be cancelled. The routes between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale and Bowen Island will also be cancelled.

Uvic is closing at 3:30. A little late but better than Camosun still being open https://twitter.com/...069241479491586. Not really sure the point of Camosun staying open anyway. Almost every one I've talked to (including myself) with classes today were cancelled by the instructor so why not just make it official?

Woke up at 5:00 am, went to the office and shoveled and salted the driveway and the parking lot.

Came home and shoveled and salted the driveway. Came inside for a little rest after all that exercise. Just looked out the window.

Jesus Christ!
