Hey guys, there is such a thing as Freedom of Association which makes this type of event perfectly fair. This is a private group and if they want it to be women-only then they have every god given right to make it that way.

There is nothing stopping you from forming your own men-only group.

What if they only wnated to associate with white people?

I myself am a member of a men's-only organization which has thousands of members across the country......

Dylan, I would hardly call skyscraperpage.com a men's only organization, it's just been a while since any women participated.

If the discrimination in question is the only thing excluding the targetted individuals, it is against human rights laws. If the group discriminates on others bases and is otherwise exclusive for different reasons, it can.

There is nothing stopping a golf club in the US (can't say categorically about Canada) excluding black people, except the court of public opinion. Same thing with Augusta National and women.

He's not referring to SSP, Phil.

But since you raised the issue SSP's visitors, not necessarily participants, are 55% male.

This will be my last comment on this issue.

Here are a couple of examples of exclusive groups meeting in public which are perfectly legal.

You must be a member of the O'Brien School of Irish Dance to walk with this group.

One needs to be a Shriner to participate in the event seen here. To be a Shriner you must be a Mason. To be a Mason you must be male.

Tell me again how a women-only group meeting in public is illegal?

^ If those parades excluded men, or women, or kids, or young girls, they would not be allowed.

The woman-only group meeting in public is not a problem.

An event only open to one gender, but open to all members of the other gender is a problem.

So much for trying to make a joke.

55% of the visitors may be male but i'd bet a tiny percentage of the posters are male, especially regular posters.

This year's run has a capacity of 3,500. Still a women-only event.

But all is not lost:

Special note for men – we are looking for “Gods” to volunteer
