Perhaps when it is all done and the scaffolding is removed I will like it better. At the moment I find it blocky, heavy and kind of dark despite the presence of the boxes.

Is it just me or does the View Street entrance feel like an emergency exit only?
I should also add that where the scaffolding has come down, the overall look is pretty decent. I would have framed a few more of the "boxes" in yellow, especially on the lower floors, but there's definitely a funky vibe to this project. I imagine it will appeal to a young-ish demographic.

I think you would be surprised at the number of people around retirement age that are horrified at the thought of traditional dishwater-dull "senior living" communities.
And yes, I find the ground floor underwhelming. It's like it's missing some sort of design element, a visual anchor at the ground floor. But overall I like it.

The hits of bright colour that accent and actuate the facade are the thing that's missing from the V1488 project on Pandora.

Oh for sure, but at least locally, I don't imagine a large number of them are looking to "downsize" into a rental building.

Agreed. I live on that block and am very disappointed with the streetscape on the View St side. Otherwise, I'm really loving the look of the building and can't wait to check out the units.

Today is the ten year anniversary of Dubai-based developer Emaar unveiling their public plan to build a high-end condo on what was to eventually become the Yello site.

^No, that was Fraser McColl's earlier plan. I can't recall the Emaar one, I think it was two wide towers facing a courtyard.

^No, I don't think it was the Sally "Flying Nun" Field version.
This was an early Emaar concept:
I can't recall if Emaar made further modifications before it was cancelled and sold to Chard. I believe there must have been about a dozen designs (not including minor tweaks, modifications and height variations)

The sculpture / public art was attached to the building today.
What is the public art component here? Please tell me it's better than that atrocious mural that adorned The Wave.

It's by Illarion Gallant, who's sort of Victoria's go-to guy for reliable, safe art. He did the avacado chopsticks on Belleville and the Bastion Square tulip canoe among others.
