I guess it opened a week or so ago, at Cook and North Park. Never noticed until today. Funny thing is, it is just a 1/4-block up from a legal marijuana dispensary, in the 1000-blk North Park St. I missed the odd North Park neighbourhood meeting, but last I has heard they were intending to turn it into an ice cream place, like the one adjacent to the other Pizza 420. Oh, I see, it used to be the Turning Heads salon, they re-used the same sign. There guys are creative for guys smoking pot all the time. ... Wait a minute, what's Phillipe Lucas up to these days?

I didn't know anyone thses days knows what a "head shop" is. I dunno, who cares if it's near the school. You telling me 10-12 graders don't know bout drugs?

Wasn't there one in Market Square, Johnson St. side at one time? Maybe next to Market Square News? ...Wait a minute, isn't that where Lucas's baby-clothes store is? Next thing, someone's gonna tell me Lucas's dad ran the Atlas Theatre.

Gee, I am overjoyed to see this open in my neighbourhood. It really classes-up the area that for years has been struggling to differentiate itself from being Crackton adjacent. Bravo to whoever decided this was a great location for this particular business. My one small hope is that almost every business in this location over the past 10 years or so has gone under fairly quickly after opening, and maybe with some luck this one will experience the same fate.

If it has to be......this kind of business can be performed online....why do we need a storefront to buy a new pipe or screen? I think the rent will kill them.

....and yes VHF there are still a few of us left that grew up with Haight Ashberry and Woodstock...most of us that are still alive remember how to make a pipe out of a toilet paper roll.

They seem to be doing pretty well, and who cares if there is a high school near by are you telling me that a store directed to lazy stoners is worse then the crackheads a block away or the pub and liquor store with homeless people living in front across the street, or even the dispensary next door?

Also looks like they made it 19+ too which I don't think they are required to do.

I personally think with 3 out of 4 businesses in Victoria going under anyone willing to invest here is a godsend.

I guess you don't have a young teenager at home. I don't pretend it's possible to sheild a kid from drug paraphenalia. Nor does merely seeing this stuff lead to using it, let alone abusing it of course. Still, I think it's sleazy. And seeing a junkie with a needle hanging out of his arm isn't going to make a kid think drugs are cool.

Sooner or later we might learn that kids often want to do the opposite of what we'd like - they take pride in going against authority.

Sooner or later we might learn that kids often want to do the opposite of what we'd like - they take pride in going against authority.

That's why it's important for parents to instill a sense of right and wrong from an early age. This way when the kids do see a junkie with a needle hanging off his arm, they know that's not the lifestyle they want to live.

I am far more concerned about alcohol.

Any incident that has arisen in recent memory has involved alcohol, not weed.

I think some education and teaching responsible use makes more sense.

As for the head shop, as long as it is being operated in a legal manner, I don't see a problem with it. Having an active business on a street corner, with a regular flow of customers, might even reduce public disorder (as compared to a vacant storefront).

That sounds like the average dealer downtown - active business, regular flow of customers. Ok, not the public disorder.

Seriously though, when I was in high school, pot could be had in what - 5 minutes, even without cell phones at the time. Crack or coke would take a bit longer. Pot is far less dangerous than alcohol - much less dangerous for someone to get the munchies in Oak Bay than to drive home from a pub sloshed. The answer is decriminilization, not fear.

Yes, and teach our children good judgement. I survived (but I was too straight). My better half luckily survived (and went to Belmont).
