^^ About the sordid history. I am pretty sure that Parkside is in Fairfield while the rest is downtown so can you imagine if they had proposed a single fourteen storey with a 3 storey podium? They would have freaked it would have of course been better all round but anyways.

Geez, how did I overlook this picture? The distance between them is maybe little more than a car length.

I don't know, is a blank wall the best way to go in such a situation? It might have been neat to have balconies or maybe windows with juliet balconies in that narrow space.

^ Oh definietly in that spot they are closer but I actually like how close they are at least from a pedestrian point of view I think it creates a nice street facade, perhaps the best part of the project IMO.

^ That would be OK, if the thing didn't wrap around the whole south side as well. Its not bad to put two buildings close to each other if its planned for. It is the clear lack of planning that appals me in this case.

What should have gone on these two sites was two well-coordinated towers. It could have even been two well-coordinated fatscrapers for all I care.

I don't think they should have been allowed to build either building without some plan for the other empty lot.

Indeed. Victorians tend to assume that adjacent empty properties will remain empty forever, and they like to design their buildings accordingly. That's crazy.

^That was a planning department blunder. A massive cluster**** of an oversight.

Actually the SOHO was built by the same developer as the Palladian; I assume in order to generate some revenue to finance the rest of the "glacial-progression" project.

Are you sure? Soho was a project by the same guy who's building SoMa, and Aria is being built by the same guys behind Palladian, at least that's my understanding.

I could very well be wrong, but this was how this always APPEARED to me. In any case it hardly matters, as I think the Palladian is not only a very slow project, but a terribly shabby one as well. The restoration of exterior details is poor to nil (check out the trim details around the windows). If the developer did not have the resources to take on a project of this calibre, it should have been left for someone to do it correctly. As it is now, I wouldn't live in the Palladian even if I were GIVEN a unit there for free. This should have been a very cool project, but alas it is a very expensive mediocre one. I apologize for such a lengthy "Palladian" post in this thread. To the moderators: feel free to move it.

Palladian is being built by an independant developer and is in no way affiliated with wither the Soho or Aria.

Had the Soho and Palladian been built by the same devloper we may not have seen an issue there because retaining walls on both projects would have been the same.

One of the proponents of Palladian is the son of the developer behind Aria and he's involved some capacity in both projects.

You know what? The obstruction isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Or nearly as bad as it easily could have been.

These pics of the model give you a good idea of the street interaction:
