Only in Victoria does replacing something that was lost = adding. There was a building there before.

I know we all know that, but you get my point all the same.

I am not sure I understand what the JSB issue has to do with the Bluesky project, unless you mean the "loss" of St. Andrew's School. If that's the case, blame the NIMBYs in North Park. The earlier plans for this site included retaining portions of the school, but after all the fuss by the anti-gentrification crowd, saving it became financially impossible if meeting any of the NIMBY's criteria was to be achieved (affordable, low-rise, public amenity space etc.).

Only in Victoria could a 6 floor building add to the "skyline". Oi vey.
it doesn't but it is a mega high scraper for North Park. Just think you can tell your grandkids the day the monster building came to North Park haha (cue the sarcastic font)

North Park manor is three times as tall and was built in 1975. This new building is very slightly taller than the 1931 building it replaced, as shown in the pic I linked above.

The link that goes to Gary's photo stream??

That's the one. It shows how Gary H. could see the old school building before just as he can now see the new construction on the same site.*
*which takes us full circle back to post #1739 from early July:
Gary H. noted the addition of a new wood-framed building in his skyline view.
Nparker then expressed distaste for the idea that such a short new building would be regarded as an addition to the skyline.
aastra then expressed distaste for the idea that the new building represented an addition at all, since it had replaced an older building of roughly the same height.
(aastra also provided a helpful link to an earlier pic by Gary H. that substantiated his point.)
Redd42 then trapped us all in a causality loop.

Hey granddad how come they're using wood, doesn't that kill the trees.

It's closer to the sidewalk that I would have thought

Just wait until the 10 storey buildings break ground on the 900 block!

There is a definite lack of progress pics on this one

Hey I'm not disagreeing, but I think that will be a long fight to get it approved and who wants to live across the street from crack central

I am surprised this is not being proposed as a rental project. I agree that the NPNA NIMBYs have probably already been sharpening their pitchforks in preparation for the battle.

They made it through ADP with all ten storeys intact. The Downtown Core Area Plan permits 10 storeys on the north side of Pandora and 15 storeys on the south side (if all goes well, one of these should be on the radar before the end of the year)

That likely won't stop a lot of noise from the local NIMBYs, although hopefully nothing that would sway council to go against the downtown plan.

Is that all? I mean I shouldn't be surprised, but that just seems tiny.

Are we thinking this will rent for the same as V1488? Or something more reasonable like Yello? They still seem to have vacancy but it can be hard to get $1600 for a 1 bed even in a market like ours. I'm not aware of what the finishes will be like in this building or what market it will be targeted to.

So I have heard talk on the street that the Save-On may be open as early as May 2019!?!
That seems feasible. The sooner the better.
