The grocery store is an amazing addition. I don't think we can predict the positive impact this is going to have.

It's a game changer to a level we haven't seen since the construction of the Bay Centre, I don't think. Obviously those projects are on different levels altogether, but the positivity of 1008 Pandora will be equally as powerful/important to Victoria's downtown core (sorry Charlayne, I know its in North Park, but just sayin').
The next biggest thing will be the redevelopment of Harris Green Village.
Also, take into account that the view from 1008's plaza will have two additional residential towers by ~2023 (1400 Vancouver and 979-983 Pandora). And there's also 926-932 Pandora that should be visible on the right.

and to think some opposed the project to try to save wellburns.
And you can guarantee the same group is going to try this again with the Wellburn's redevelopment proposal.

I can't help but think that the positivity from this proposal will negate the loudest objections from the NPNA which is home to one of the most important urban developments in many years.

Any other announcement of retail tenants on this site aside from SoF?

If I recall Starbucks had planned to open a standalone coffee shop there, but with Save-Ons now partnering with Starbucks it made sense to have it inside the store.

When do residents of the apartments get to move in?
There is some occupancy already in the part of the building facing Mason Street and Franklin Green.

Great image on the Google Maps tag of this location showing what Save-On will NOT be tolerating here.

Note the Save-On-Foods branding on the security guard's uniform.

Curious if it was cheaper for them to hire on their own security instead of using a contractor for this location. A lot of their other stores have security for parts of the day using a contractor, but this is the first location I've noticed security from open to close, so that would be a big expense for a contractor. Are Save-On staff unionized like Loblaws? Or perhaps part of their agreement with a contractor was this branding.

I asked the security guard (who is very friendly btw) if there were bike racks in the underground parking and he said that they will be installing bike racks outside within a week or two. I went last night around 7:30 and noticed bikes tied to just about everything (trees, telephone poles, etc.). Overall I thought the store was very nice and loved the giant windows facing out towards Harris Green.

I think I would rather shop at a store that didn't need security guards.

I think we all would, but the reality is that most stores have some sort of Loss Prevention Officer, whether they are uniformed or not. I don't think there is a major grocery store in the CRD that doesn't have an LPO.

This "memory" from August 2015 appeared on my Facebook feed today.
I wonder, now that the 1008 Pandora project is nearly complete and seemingly quite successful, if we might see something proposed on the north side of the 1000 block of Mason in the relatively near future?
