I drive and bike this section. People are mostly doing 60 not 30. There is a reason people like Mike are saying it is faster than Cook.

I drive and walk that route often and disagree with your 60 claim, more like 40 at most.

Seb where’s the link to the CoV speed study that they hate to talk about?

Only in Victoria could 40 = 60.

You can’t even make the corner on Southgate going 60.

I spend 7.5 hours a day looking down at Vancouver, it is impossible for people to go 60K on Vancouver without some sort of car that goes 0 to 60 in 10 ft. Too many traffic signals and stop signs to prevent that speed.

There are no traffic lights or stop signs on Vancouver St between Fort and Fairfield where the road is basically our-lanes wide. It is quite easy to get up to 50 or even 60 on that stretch which is why it is a popular route out of James Bay.

Come on now, it is a two lane road with parking lanes on both sides. As well as several intersections that act as marked and unmarked crosswalks.

It’s a popular route out of a James Bay because the others are congested, not because you can theoretically hit sixth gear in the ol’ Z-Roc.

Considering the difficulty with acquiring parts, a bit of both.

We drive on Vancouver almost every day, the stretch from about Richardson up to around London Drugs. Very few cars go quickly, there's simply no  room on either side. Today we had to go to a medical appt. and were driving home around 5 PM. We crawled as there was so much traffic.

I also walk to work on Vancouver and have to cross over it on foot. If cars were going 60 I think I'd notice. They're not.

what?  many people are driving cars in this climate emergency?  in a climate emergency don't you have to pull over and stop like you would for an ambulance?  and only then proceed when lisa helps declares the emergency over?  gives the all-clear signal.

or is it possible that many people don't believe it's currently a climate emergency?

or don't care that there is one?

or both?

at what point can we stop calling this a "crisis" and an "emergency" it makes it sounds like eminent doom is coming down upon us fast... but it seems to be dragging out into this long limbo situation.. they seem to be the new token words.. it makes me feel like we're in an endless loop of crisis emergencies and i don't dare go outside into the world for being swept up in it... after all.. you gotta hunker down in an emergency...

we have a housing crisis yet 99.6% of us are housed.

we have an opioid crisis yet people knowingly take fentanyl.

we just like being in a certain state.

Politicians like to keep us in that state: it keeps the focus away from them.

I'm surprised there isn't a comment about Lisa Helps new "bike mayor".  She was on CFAX telling people not to wear helmets (seriously).  A caller later made fun of the situation stating he was the "car mayor", and once all the bike lanes are removed, we can do away with seat belts.

You just can't make this stuff up.

From Vicnews. She will fit right in because as we all know, Victoria is exactly like Amsterdam!.

On her priority list is creating a healthy livable city, which would include closing off Government Street to cars on most hours of the day and creating more green spaces. She also believes lowering speed limits in high traffic areas is mandatory to make sure that cyclists stay safe. “People, the soft squishy ones, should have priority on the streets,” she said

Her mandate: https://bycs.org/susan-stokhof/

Lot of reaction to her interview, lots of comments saying smug, entitled, bizarre, dangerous to promote no hi-viz or helmets etc. She's off to a great start, meeting all the requirements of a CoV council member...I'm sure she'll go far...
