said Corey Burger, policy and infrastructure chair for Capital Bike. The advocacy society is a merger of The Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition and Greater Victoria Bike to Work Society

Let's merge the bike lane thread with amalgamation.  If we would just amalgamate, then we would standardize services and could do away with free leaf and garbage pickup like many of the other municipalities.  Problem solved.

Most of the time doesn’t make sense piling leafs on the road but few places it does make more sense then damaging the boulevard grass depending upon the roadway size and layout. I suppose?

Seems like everything is bad for you these days....

Cowichan Valley residents are being asked to refrain from burning woody debris, as their neighbours face higher-than-average rates of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.

It's a false dichotomy to suggest we must choose between low crime and bike lanes.

That being said, if we want more people to bike downtown, the lack of safe bike parking is a bigger issue now than the lack of bike lanes to get there.

Piling leaves on the streets leads to plugged storm drains. Just leave them in a tidy pile in one spot, not in the gutter or drain area.

I don't think he's saying we must choose between the two, but he is saying that by making life better in one way, we are making life worse in another. The parallel is while you have great new bike lanes, your great new bike is likely to get stolen because we've failed to take rising bike theft rates into account when developing bike infrastructure.

What’s the answer? A secure bike check at the library? Lockers?

I think it might be pretty easy to have a bike locker at the parkades. Secured with technology.

Composting is similar but longer, smellier and can reach temperatures that can cause spontaneous combustion under the right conditions.

I see that so much traffic has "evaporated" onto Rockland that sometime in the last couple of days they've installed three or four concrete blobs in the middle of the road (difficult to see in the dark), near Government House, stating 30 km.

Anyone can quickly Google the term “traffic evaporation” and read about the overwhelming peer-reviewed evidence that traffic evaporates when road space is reallocated to bike and roll routes or transit lanes.

"peered reviewed evidence".  We all see what is going on.  Other jurisdictions for this "evidence".  Same ocean and bridges?  Same 20 years of a community plan sending growth out to westshore?

Too much activism to be taken as a "professional planner"

The District of Saanich's Community E-bike Incentive Pilot Program launched on October 12, 2021, and is offering an incentive on the purchase of new e-bikes by Saanich residents for personal transportation. The pilot program offers incentives to 300 participants, with 120 incentives initially reserved for income qualified applicants. Incentives are available on a first come, first served basis while funds last.

As expected, the program has proven very popular and we are now nearing the full allocation of funds. The $1,600 and $800 incentive tiers are now closed and spaces at the $350 incentive tier are filling up fast.

Why don’t the Richardson bike lane speed bumps have gaps for bicyclists so they can maintain their speed?

To be fair to cars just as you hit the bump break then continue to your original speed bumps will have no effect but extra gas will keep your suspension level.

From what I’ve seen the Richardson “bike lanes” have little to do with bicyclists?

I drive on Richardson almost every day. I never brake, just take my foot off the gas slightly and move to the right if there is nothing parked there. The roads in Victoria are so bumpy I don't notice the speed bumps. In fact, they're probably smoother than the entire length of Oxford St.

Check out Scott Street in Oaklands (especially its most southern block) for a real rollercoaster ride.
