In Los Angeles they have stopped repaving roads and just do patches instead.
If they repave a road they have to provide sidewalks that are ADA compliant, which can cost up to $50k at each intersection to provide cut-outs that wheel chairs can use.

I was reading about that. Some wheelchair users should sue LA for that.

Cyclists using the corridor along Shelbourne and Pandora might see more safety improvements after fast tracking bike lanes in the area received initial approval.
Pandora Avenue already hosts protected bike lanes between Store and Cook streets. Now, a motion put forward by Couns. Matt Dell and Dave Thompson proposes extending the infrastructure.
“What happens in practice is folks are riding up Pandora’s two-way bike lanes, when you get to Cook Street, the two way bike lanes ends,” Dell said.

Didn't they just finish Shelbourne? What more can they do? I drive along there regularly and rarely see more than maybe three cyclists, and that's at rush hour.

Matt Dell also said on social media that he believes the Pandora lanes should be expanded with full bike lanes in each direction.
Where the hell is he going to put them? There's barely room for the two-way one that's there now.
Never mind the sheer idiocy of putting two-way traffic on a one-way street.

Court records show the charge was sworn Feb. 18, 2026. It falls under Section 144 (1a) of the Motor Vehicle Act, and Ingram is scheduled to appear again in court on April 29.
The charge stems from a crash at the intersection of Quadra Street and Greenridge Crescent that claimed the life of Dr. Sylvie Argouarch.
Argouarch was riding her bike through a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a pickup truck. She was on her way to work at a care facility, part of a routine commute she regularly made by bike.

Not to victim-blame here, but why would anyone, walking or riding a bike, put themselves at a point in the crosswalk when they cannot get out of the way of a car, or they have not made sure the cars have stopped before they get to that point?

Wouldn't it still be 100% on the driver?
This is a completely controlled intersection, with traffic lights for both directions on Quadra, a light for those coming off of Greenridge onto Quadra, and a light for those coming out of Borden Mercantile/Bottle Return parking lot.
If the crosswalk/bicycle lane read "WALK", the onus would be on any driver, coming from any direction - to give right-of-way to whomever was in the crosswalk.

It is important that drivers and cyclists pay attention at intersections and crosswalks.
