First name in the race - Paul Summerville. He is an economist that was a star candidate for the NDP in Ontario in the 2006 election but has since changed provinces and parties. He wants the Liberals nomination

These 'election signs' are ads for the Rifflandia Music Festival. I noticed the same Watts sign in Cook St Village.

...ah, that's right, they did a bunch of election-style signs.

Murray Rankin now has a campaign web site up. He is seeking the NDP nomination. The Times-Colonist has an article about him in today's paper.

Murray Rankin has high socialist creds. He will be a formidable candidate for the NDP. If there were a few others thinking about it, they may be reluctant now.
Don't be so sure.

True but he is too far left for the mainstream.

Murray Rankin has enough of standing and no serious public flaws that he will be the odds on favorite to win. It would take a serious star running for the Greens or Conservatives for them to have a chance to win.

Murray Rankin has a list of supporters out and it looks strong, of most interest/concern for the Greens is that Guy Dauncey is backing Rankin. I am certain Guy Dauncey was high on the list of potential Green candidates, but with him backing the NDP this will bring a lot of green types to the NDP

Former NDP MLA Elizabeth Cull is IN.

Interesting. She is also scheduled to be at my Facebook Summit today.

That's interesting. So there will be a battle for the NDP nomination? Cull has been keeping up to speed with a regular radio gig but then again, that did little to help Christy Clark.

Oh that's just awful. She was a terrible finance minister and just like all good socialist politicians, sold out and became a capitalist running dog herself, after they were routed out of office. And if you've heard her on CBC Radio (for her PAID position as Friday political panel hack), she comes off like Lynn Hunter in reverse. Say, I wonder if ol' Lynn will run!? I mean at the very least, it would serve as another opportunity for Her Munificence to remind us, the great unwashed, that she was once a federal MP. Again.

On an unrelated note, I was at the grand opening of The Village in Estevan Village and perrenial also-ran Jessica Van der Veen showed up for the sole purpose of glad-handling votes. She appears to be the BCNDP nominee in Oak Bay-Gordon Head and she will handily unthrone Ida "Bev Oda Lite" Chong in May - which is likely why she is not throwing her hat in the ring: that and perhaps where she lives, the federal and provincial ridings do not overlap.

Anyhoo, don't get me wrong: I understand that you've got to get out there and whore yourself to the masses in hopes that something you say resonates with them and at the very least, you have some name recognition at the polls. But there is an art to it - once you seem as though that's what you're trying to do, you've failed. Well, it seems like we can rule her out as alternative superhero Captain Subtle, as was nothing sort of obsequeous in her interactions...that is until you tell her that you live outside of the riding. I've never seen someone stop mid-sentance and turn their back to you so overtly.

Also, her website is just awful. I mean, "Where's Jessica?" Barf.

Murray Rankin is the green NDP choice and Elizabeth Cull is the old guard NDP choice.

If Rankin is chosen, the Greens have no chance because green people like Guy Dauncey, John Fryer and Irwin Henderson are all backing him.

With Cull the Greens have a slim chance.

Rumour is the Conservatives are courting a BIG name, nationally big.
