I'll give it 18 months.

I'll leave the jury out for a bit. It's not like there's all that many other self-identified wine bars in town, so for now it's got fairly clear sailing if it stays in that niche.

Menus look terrific. If the food is good it might be a keeper. I’ll definitely be giving it a try.

Who remembers that there was briefly a wine bar at 2915 Douglas, now the site of the Arbutus Shelter?

Not me, that's for sure.
The only other self-proclaimed wine bar I can think of in town is the one in Cook St Village that went in a year or two back, where Serious Coffee was.

Herald Street Brew Works opened this afternoon @ 506 Herald. I picked up three tallboy cans to go which I'll be sampling later tonight

We decided for tonight not to cook anything fancy but just grab take out from our neighborhood pub, Gorge Pointe. They appeared to be full in the sense every other table was occupied and they were definitely doing a brisk take out/pick up business. I ordered and got there relatively early and was still the sixth in line waiting to p/u our food. Gotta support the local guys....!
Otherwise the streets were dead and its eerily quiet out there.

We had a good early dinner rush, better than expected actually, now it's just takeout orders trickling in, and a few tables. We have never pushed this place as a NYE or special event place so although slower than last year, NYE is usually slow.
Matt.

Nice to hear the Gorge Pointe is still going - I thought that place shut down ten years ago or more.

What? It is a very popular place with good food. Much better food than a bunch of pubs that I could name but won't.

Totally concur; as far as the food is concerned its right up there IMO with any "pub" style food in the city. Its also very walkable for us which is obviously nice. Guessing perhaps FogPub does not live in Victoria? The pub itself was rebuilt and updated some years ago as part of the Gorge Pointe condo development -

Know it all.

I live in Victoria but not that part of town, and rarely get out that way other than to Tillicum Mall now and then. I remember the Gorge having excellent food in the early 90s but then it went downhill, and (I thought) closed.
Now I know it's still going, post-covid I'll make a point(e) of heading out there.

Searching the old archives for White Spot I also noted a 1988 article about neighbourhood pub proposal that was rejected at the corner of Hillside and Hamilton. This would be just up from the mall across from the Aberdeen Hospital. That would have been nice although back then pubs were considered the Devil's work.

although maude hunters in saanich must have opened in 1985 or 1986.
In 1986 Maude Hunter’s Neighbourhood Pub was established as the second neighbourhood pub in Victoria, the first being Spinnakers. In 2016 Maude Hunter’s proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary.

1988:
Alan Kaufman, pro-pub neighbour: "We need a social centre we can all enjoy".
Pieta Van Dyke, anti-pub City Councillor: "If residents want a social centre they should press for a community school".
BOOOOOOOO!!!!
