Roach-eating contest winner choked.

(CNN) -- A 32-year-old man who died after downing dozens of roaches and worms last month to win a python at a Florida reptile store choked to death, medical officials said Monday.

Edward Archbold died "as a result of asphyxia due to choking and aspiration of gastric contents," said the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office. It said his airway was obstructed by bug body parts, and ruled his death was an accident.

Archbold was among 20 to 30 contestants participating in the "Midnight Madness" event at Ben Siegel Reptiles in Deerfield Beach.
The participant who consumed the most insects and worms would take home an $850 python.

A woman I went to highschool with died at a marshmallow eating contest at the local fair back home a few years ago. So sad, such a ridiculous way to die. Her twin sister lives on without her, which is what gets me the most when I think about it.

People used to die at those "last person to go to the bathroom wins a TV" contests so they don't have them anymore.

We all do risky things, especially when we were young, or when peer pressure or money is involved. I'm sure a lot of people on the list below didn't think there was a risk of death in what they were doing.

Well, choking on your vomit is how Hendrix died, and many others whose death is attributed to alcohol. Though not glamorous, it's a fairly time-honoured way to go...
