Thsi evening on my way home I stopped at the Log House Pub beer and wine store.
I neede to buy 1 12oz can of beer for a recipe I was making for dinner.

I went and took one can of beer to the till.

The guy working there told me I was not allowed to buy only one can of beer and if I did he would charge me for a 6 pack .
I was however given an option to buy a large beer but that was way more than what I neede and the coast was more.

My question is this...

Is it illegal for him to sell me 1 can of beer and does the liquor control board state that beer needs to be purchased in lots of 6 if bought at a private retailer

I left without the beer and drove to the Government liqurr store at Canwest Mall where they gladly sold me 1 can of beer.

Some liquor stores have provisions placed on their license that prevents the sale of singles. The Cascadia in Quadra Village had some weird rules put on it but I forget what they were.

It has a whole new look!

The liquor store in James Bay was forced to implement a "no single sales" in response to neighbourhood complaints about drunkeness. Even though experts say when singles are banned, drunks resort to shoplifting or buying an entire six-pack and binge drinking.

Made beer battered fish and chips from a recipe in an Eric Akis cookbook I bought. Turned out great just like a from a fish and chip shop. Was a little concerned though because i used crisco vegtable oil in a large pot . Used a thermometer to make sure temp was ok but there was some bubbling and splash that thankfully didnt ignite when it hit the element on stove. Was cooking with a large fire extinguisher at the ready.
Think I will invest in a home deep fryer in the future was little unnerving..but yummy

That sounds tasty! I know when we deep fry fish at the parent's place the oil splatters all over the place. On the bright side the deck didn't need staining this year.

^That's funny, we made fish and chips tonight with our new deep fryer using Lighthouse's Keepers Stout. It's a small model fryer so making enough for three people took half an hour of cooking small batches. It worked better the first time when we made tempura.

Wrap the deep fryer in saran wrap. Makes it easier to clean up.

^That's funny, I do that to myself before I start drinking beer.

I could never own a deep fryer. I'd end up deep frying my slippers just to see how they taste. I have no self control.

The Bay had some home deep fryer that was all "healthy" and used less greese or what ever. I started walking towards it and my wife jumped in the way and gave me one of those "over my dead (and morbidly obese) body" looks. It's for the best, as I have no self control and all food would be deep fried and I'd be too big to leave my home.
