Just had to give a ride to someone and the area around Vancouver and Pandora was all blocked off. Lots of police and congestion but don't know what's happening.

Might be a gas line issue. All of the CRA building appears to have been evacuated.

In that neighbourhood it could be anything.

BC Ambulance's new cars/ units have arrived on Annacis Island in Delta for some final outfitting before they're sent out to Stations. I would assume Victoria (Station 140 - CRS) would get some soon as they're one of the busier stations in the province. You'll be happy to know they have a new siren and not the same one you've been hearing for a decade. *Not my photos - from a Facebook group*

Oh wow. Can you describe the difference for the sirens? As in, are they not quite as loud from a distance and have a much more concentrated sound wave, or are they something new that we haven't heard before?

Are you sure it's a change in the actual siren sound or something else? I can't see them changing up the sound when it needs to be a universally recognized sound for people to know how to react when it's heard for safety reason? (Pull over when driving, do not enter an intersection and such...)

It is a change from a Carson SA-500: https://youtu.be/BGtKZuOsS90
to a whelen type siren (most likely a Cencom Gold which is what is used in local RCMP vehicles and some fire Chief units): https://youtu.be/G79BW-nhyjc
The older units will still have the iconic BCAS siren but the new ones will sound like all the other emergency services

There was a fire today around 1 pm in the same block of McClure that the old house burned a few weeks back. It may have been a large garbage truck, but traffic was blocked on Cook and rerouted to Vancouver up the sidestreets. It was crazy busy on those sidestreets around 1:30.

Yup, a recycling truck caught fire. Big mess.

The entire carbon footprint saved by this batch of recycling disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Fire this evening around 6:45pm in Gorge Park across from Fairways. Went by there just as Saanich Fire was arriving, looked like some kind of makeshift shelter or homeless camp that had caught fire. Now that the summer (and dry weather) is approaching, will there be greater enforcement to have these people vacate when they are causing such a fire hazard?

Sidney sells fire hall for $9 million

They had planned for around $3 million, but the Town of Sidney now has a deal to sell its existing fire hall and an adjacent property for much more. The municipality has announced a deal with a pair of developers to sell the properties for $9 million — possibly more, if the Town approves more floor space in a new building, which is allowed under current zoning in the downtown area. The deal is between the Town and developers Fraser McColl and Dan Robbins, who bid to purchase the fire hall and the parking lot next door on Third Street. They plan on redeveloping the site into a mixed residential-commercial building. As part of the deal, 30 parking stalls will be retained. The site also has the potential to allow a mid-block building of up to six storeys...
