I found the UK terribly expensive when I went there a few years ago, so I guess this is just authentic pricing to go along with the authentic cuisine!

How much above that for a local craft brew? Say Blue Buck/Piper's/Race Rocks, then up a notch to Fat Tug/Dark Matter etc.

Not that it's my business, but my query was more about how much more pricey local craft beer is wholesale (keg) than the figure quoted above for Blue/Canadian.

I thought I saw some posts suggesting there was no draft there.

^ Yup the old American pint vs English pint issue. Technically they are supposed to be a 20 oz pour to be called a pint.

Liquor laws only allow 16 oz (maybe 18 oz?) pints, right?

That is not true. You can proper 20oz pints all over town. The issue is when places sell a "pint" but serve a 16oz beer.

Isn't a serving of beer in excess of 500 ml illegal in BC? A 20 oz glass is well in excess of 500 ml.

I'm pretty sure the biggest pint I've ever had in Victoria was 18oz, but maybe laws have changed in recent months?

Double checked and the most a bar can serve is 500ml which is under 18oz. So whoever is telling you you're drinking from a 20oz glass may be correct, but you're not actually consuming 20oz of beer (legally, that is).

What about a pitcher of beer? Or a tall bottle?
I know plenty of restaurants that will sell you the 650ml bomber bottles.

Yeah, good point. I'm still looking to verify what exactly falls under the 500ml limit or if that's even still the case. Information is all over the place.

What about a pitcher of beer?

One person can't order a pitcher is my understanding.

This blog post cleared up the true pint size debate: http://smallbeerblog...f-victoria.html

He even quotes the Liquor PRimary Guide

Draught beer: You may serve draught beer in single servings
of no more than 24 oz (680 ml) or smaller servings of multiple
brands, provided the total served at one time is no more than 24
oz (680 ml). For reference, a Canadian pint is 568ml. Pitchers
or other multiple serving containers shared by two or more
patrons may contain no more than 1.5 litres of draught beer.

Yes there is a reason those bombers are 650mL.

Matt.
