I caught a rat in a live trap thinking that Animal Control would come and get it, but, no, they will not. I can't kill it.

Take it to the woods and set it free then.

The last rat I caught I ended up beating to death with a plunger. Ok it was already mostly dead in a traditional trap....

But if you're feeling merciful, why not just drive it somewhere and release it?

Take it to the Legislative buildings. Nobody will notice it there.

Thanks for the idea. I've decided I definitely can't kill her. I just gave her some water and a strawberry which she really appreciated. I'm getting soft in my old age. :0 Will take her a nice place away from homes and release her. May become food for a raptor.

Why did you catch it?

It was probably running up and down the walls. We have a lot of field mice out in the country that make themselves at home. They chew stuff all night long.

Do you drive a cab or a limo for a living?

We drove to nearby park to release a frightened-but-healthy mouse that our cat had caught. I let him out of the box and he ran away, paused and for whatever reason, the little guy doubled back and scurried toward Mrs. West, who promptly let out a blood curdling shriek which alerted the neighbours to our relocation scheme.

Well if the rat was drunk, that's not quite as impressive as it might have been ;-)

^True, he couldn't even touch his nose with his paw.

When I was a kid my dad caught a monster sized rat with his bare hands and drowned it in the toilet. I never looked at my dad the same way again.

FFS!  It's a rat, not some cuddly GUND teddy bear.  Ever hear of the Bubonic Plague?  Stuff it in a plastic garbage bag, and tie a knot, and then throw it in your garbage can..throw it at your neighbour's cat..

I'm too much of a softy to kill a rat or mouse, but in business, look out.

I agree, take it out to Thetis Lake or something and release it
