If you are a listener you will know that we welcome all ideas to our comfy coffee table including the Mayor's.  I may add that one person's paradise is another's hell

Wow. Only Lisa could lack self awareness to that degree.

The topic (and comments on VV) intrigued me so this is the first of your podcasts that I listened to. Great content and interesting to learn a little more about our Mayor's opinions. Great to heat she voted against some of the rulings that bothered me (applying the affordable housing requirement retroactively).

Ok so now that the benefits have been discussed, I assume next week you’ll discuss the negative effects of mass immigration? You know, stagnant wage growth, unaffordable homes, an entire generation worse off economically than their parents were

one of the common mantras by pro-immigration people is that “we need more young workers” etc. since our birth rate is low. but there are few if any jurisdictions that have run completely out of workers. and a worker shortage actually drives up wages and can be a very good thing for wages.

The same people who say we need immigrants because we don’t have enough young workers, also tell you not to have kids to save the environment

I am a huge supporter of the Canada Century Initiative which would have us increase our immigration two or three times to have our population grow to 100 million by the end of the century. Without immigration Canada would have disappeared into irrelevance many years ago. We would have a declining population and true we would not have enough young people to do most of the work.

It has been through immigration that Canada became a country at all and for it to continue to succeed it will need to increase it substantially.

Do you consider Japan irrelevant? Population there has been declining for years now.

It’s not immigration that is the issue, it’s the way Canada has elected to pursue the immigration issue.

Trudeau’s famous “all are welcome” Twitter post was not lost on those who wish to pursue illegal means of entering this country, thereby creating longer wait times for those applying through the proper channels (this, in fact, is now a serious challenge facing Canadians and immigrant hopefuls). Ontario in particular has been hard hit with communities there scrambling to find housing for people and the funding to house them while the feds look on in pursuit of their next pre-election goal.

Canada is a nation of immigrants, of which I am one, but immigration as historically identified in our country is not what is currently happening along our border, and while we absolutely should help those who are fleeing violence or persecution, the federal government’s mishandling of the situation is epic.

Know it all.

The amount of people crossing the border illegally into Canada is peanuts. If I were rich I would be sponsoring immigrants to Victoria as fast and as many as I could.

It isn’t peanuts when the Feds and Provinces are having to cough up hundreds of millions of dollars each to pay for it.
