Hello, hope it’s okay to request here:
If you have any/can share recent photos, particularly looking North and South from the viewing area above the Good Earth, that would be appreciated! I am very interested in the views from this point. Thank You in advance.

There are some photos from that roof from a post made on Feb 25 of this thread, on page 39.

These days, the view south would be of a building under construction, as the condo building immediately south of Good Earth is now up to the 5th storey.

I have no photos but probably could take some in the next few days as it's around my cycling route. The Good Earth rooftop is pretty cool but ultimately not that spectacular. I'm more impressed by the fact that I can walk onto the roof than the actual view itself. It's just a 1 storey building after all.

Thanks Kungsberg and Brantastic. I’ve viewed the many pictures posted and they’re very helpful. My specific interest in the North/South is due to personal curiosity of the “sightlines” (right word?) from the levels 2 and 3 of the 550 condos looking towards the Legislative buildings. I’m out of province so it’s tricky these days to visit for a update. Thanks either way!

Excellent, Brantastic! Sounds like you’ll be helped out here, GC3.

Whereabouts are you currently residing, if you don’t mind me asking?

Very good. James Bay is a great part of town, and the developers involved with Capital Park are among the very best in western Canada. Concert is a large Vancouver developer that has been active in Victoria for nearly 20 years, and Jawl Properties is the largest developer of commercial complexes on the Island, and one of the largest independent office developers in BC.

So from a quality stand point, this is solid product. And from a value standpoint, it’s a concrete low rise instead of wood frame. That helps to retain value over the long term, and due to the rarity of low rise concrete homes in this region, sets the product well apart from other inventory.

It's a shame a bit more ground level retail was not part of this development. Otherwise it looks very nice.

Look at that A+ social distancing! Bran must be important, when they saw him with a camera everyone got in line.

Thank You Brantastic!

I’ve been coming across the terms seismic building codes, and I’m probably oversimplifying by wondering: does that mean newer developments (like Capital Park) should be able to e.g. withstand a certain magnitude of earthquake? I tried to find more information but only came across generally worded B.C. government releases.

Yes, there are certainly seismic standards that must be met in new construction.

But that doesn’t mean the building will be habitable following a major seismic event, just that you’ll be able to safely vacate the structure. Generally speaking concrete buildings are well suited to certain seismic activity to begin with but the seismic wave, the soil/ground underneath and the depth of the quake all play a role on the impact on structures.
