I don’t know. It’s in my inbox today.

A 2021 TC article says two councillors were opposed to variances.

Council ultimately decided the way to prevent more urban sprawl and provide new housing options was to build higher, voting 7-2 to move the project to a final reading. The only hurdles that remain include an agreement with the developer on amenities and environmental features and other technical issues, as well as a contract with the Capital Regional District on the affordable-housing component.

Judy Brownoff and Nathalie Chambers were opposed, both citing environmental concerns.

Yeah, bizarre. Maybe they took some final municipal permitting requirement to mean approval?

That sounds right. There were some design issues still pending.

The sales centre closed down a long time ago, and is by appointment only with the developer, I believe.

This was just a municipal to-do.

Capital Daily article says "The proposal was debated earlier along lines of traffic, disturbance of the park, and noise versus the need for housing in the growing community" ... then at the end, says "a large two-bedroom unit would cost about a million dollars."

I don't get how this is supposed to help with "the need for housing." Everybody living in this project will be a wealthy retiree coming from somewhere else. Anyone who can pay $1M for a 2BR is not going to rent it out, except in emergencies or through AirBnB. If they really need the income, they could park that $1M in a GIC and get $50K in a year, with far less headache than dealing with a long-term tenant paying $3000 a month for a unit the owner can't use. Please explain.

Are we sure it’ll be that expensive? I think closer to $650k for a 2BR, and up of course. A 2BR penthouse is not a rear facing lower floor unit.

Wonder if a number of projects are being scrapped. High costs and less people looking to purchase. A 15% undermarket units just makes the whole thing less viable.
