With the rise of AI and the fall of attention spans, it's crazy how much reading, writing, and attention-span we can offload to AI.

I will often click on a youtube video, and ask the AI to summarize it for me. It's a much quicker way of dealing with those clickbait titles than having to sit through the video ...

I think our kids are doomed. You simply don't need to know how to construct written content anymore, nor do you need the attention span to do deep research. AI can do it all for you and sum it up into a tidy soundbite. Scary.

Ya. We had someone rip off some of our Etsy products using AI. Their lack of intelligence and reading meant they didn’t understand copyright infringement. They used our brand name. Easy takedown. Then their AI modified photos weren’t modified enough. If Etsy doesn’t get on top of fake shops ASAP they will destroy the platform. The effort to make a shop is now very low with AI able to do everything.

Etsy has already become junkified like eBay and Amazon. It was still legit circa 2020, but since then it’s been down hill.

So what happens now to creators and makers? Do we have to go back to the local market to sell items guaranteed to be what they’re sold as, and to ensure nobody takes your goods and reproduces them?

Its one thing if the tech companies released the tech and also the safeguards, but they seem to have no interest in protecting the creators the AI draws from and relies on.

Local markets are already filled with made-in-china trinkets that people are passing off as their own wares. The enshittification is everywhere...

It’ll all work out. It always does.

It’s not like Etsy was ever a big defender of any trademarks big or small.

Big companies themselves are ripping off the real deal by producing mountains of AI-generated junk. Case in point, Fanatics merchandise. If that's what you do when you have multi-billion-dollar licensing contracts then it should be no surprise the small fish are also doing it.

Spoiler alert: just wait until the governments get into this kind of thing in a big way. If you think dealing with the CRA is an excruciating ordeal now...

When I type "Chardonnay" it almost always comes out as "Chardonnary" on the first attempt.

Never type Chardonnay, type Pinot Grigio.
