Norman Jewison was a Canadian icon. His sons alleged his wife cut off contact, coerced him to change his will

Legal fight between filmmaker's sons, 2nd wife highlights end-of-life struggles many families face

A will he signed in 2014 would have given St. David Jewison the Malibu beach house and some other funds (and mentioned "gifts of money and property" previously given to her), but the bulk of his fortune was to be divided among Jewison's three children.

Then in November 2023, a little over two months before he died, Jewison signed a new will. It saw all three of his children written out, with the leftover amounts after various bequests — an estimated $27 million — to be split between St. David Jewison and a fairly new charity where she was a director, the Norman and Lynne St. David Jewison Foundation.

Virginia Giuffre, who accused Britain's Prince Andrew and other influential men of sexually exploiting her as a teenager trafficked by financier Jeffrey Epstein, has died. She was 41.

Giuffre died by suicide Friday at her farm in Western Australia, her publicist confirmed.

“Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors,” her family said in a statement. “Despite all the adversity she faced in her life, she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure.”

Her publicist Dini von Mueffling described Giuffre as “deeply loving, wise and funny."

“She adored her children and many animals. She was always more concerned with me than with herself," von Mueffling wrote in a statement. "I will miss her beyond words. It was the privilege of a lifetime to represent her.”

Ah. I see. With folks talking about charter of rights, flying the flag and saying freedom is in danger. Hypocrisy is the baseline 🤷🏽

Classic bit of rage bait above, as beheading as a capital punishment doesn't exist in Abu Dhabi.

Nothing like a completely inaccurate statement to get folks riled up against - well -  everything!

AI: In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), consensual same-sex sexual activity between adults is criminalized under both civil and Sharia law, potentially leading to imprisonment or even the death penalty. While no known arrests or prosecutions for consensual same-sex conduct were reported in 2021, the potential for legal repercussions remains. Dubai's penal code allows for a 10-year prison sentence, while Abu Dhabi's allows for a 14-year sentence.

Ok thankfully it’s only a 14 year prison sentence or death penalty (usually firing squad).

Makes it better. Don’t Say Gay.

or rather, to be more clear, its not a 'completely inaccurate statement'.  Same result - beheading or capital punishment by any other form.

Here in Canada....

Section 159 of the Criminal Code prohibits engaging in "annual" intercourse, except by a husband and a wife or two persons who are both 18 years or older, provided that the act is consensual and takes place in private. The maximum penalty is 10 years imprisonment when convicted on indictment or six months imprisonment on summary conviction. The Canadian government has introduced legislation to eliminate this section.

and when was this repealed?

^ that's not true.

It's completely true I'm afraid.

Being gay doesn't get you executed in Abu Dhabi, or anywhere in the U.A.E.

Trusting A.I. to deliver you the facts on any given subject matter is probably not a great idea.

LGBTQ activity is certainly against the law in the U.A.E., but assertions that it leads to capital punishment are utterly false.

Like I noted in my earlier post - just classic rage-bait.

Odeon property has been listed for sale.

Wow!

That's a major downtown development, certainly one that long time Victoria residents will take note of.

As easy as it is to figure out that the changing times result in property/development values exceeding movie patron revenues by a large margin, it does seem somewhat counterintuitive considering all of the condo's and their new residents blanketing downtown - and peoples enduring desire to go see a movie in an actual theatre rather than on their 50" flatscreen.

Can the Capital 6's sale and redevelopment be far behind?

If the Capital 6 ever sold/closed, that would leave The Vic as the only downtown movie house - from my childhood days of 7 downtown movie houses, down to two, then one - then none?
