Do we know when this will be in effect? Looking at the 30/31's schedules for fall they still go off Carey to Blanshard then down Saanich to Douglas while I would think if this was opening any time soon those two just staying on Carey to Douglas would be one of the first changes made.

So is Douglas going to be one lane south for traffic during rush hour? Douglas between Finlayson and Burnside is open and still only two lanes so unless the buses are going to drive up the sidewalk I don't see any other possibility (or they're going to realign the road? I doubt that will be done by October though).

They have yet to repaint the lane markings. Douglas will be 7 lanes total. One bus lane in each direction, two traffic lanes in each direction, and the centre turn lane.

I don't imagine they will re-paint the southbound lanes until the entirety of Tolmie to Hillside is complete.

unless they're making the lanes narrowing I'm not sure where the space for this lane is coming from though.

They did widen the curb-to-curb distance (hence why the trees were removed) and the lane widths are showing 3.3m for bus/bike and 3.0m each for the four travel lanes and 3.1m for the two-way turn lane in the center.

That may be narrower than the existing lanes (probably ~3.6m - not sure).

That's exactly what they're doing.

The loss of the left turn onto Carey has turned Saanich and Douglas into a grand old mess.

Yup, and making it a 2 lane left turn will not solve it just make it worse

I suppose the intent is for anyone who was using Carey would now be turning off at McKenzie and linking up to Blanshard/Hwy17 from there.

I always hate entering the PatBay south from McKenzie. Pretty much as soon as you hit 80 you need to start slowing to 50

apparently they're working on the McKenzie/Quadra intersection right now with the lights off (using signs) and I guess to make that easier each direction has one straight-through/right turn lane and one left turn lane open.

I found that as soon as I hit 50 I had to increase my intake of Viagra.

To be fair, it's been a mess since Uptown opened. No idea how to properly fix the whole area.

True, but when you add mess to a mess it's still a mess. :)

I don't know what Douglas has been like recently but now since being forced to use it after the closure of Carey, I see that the left turn lanes are backed up quite a bit.

Odd that they'd take the approach to dump more traffic onto a road that they want to be bus and bike friendly.

Once the bus lanes are completed the traffic will improve.

Are there two turning lanes there right now?

Know it all.

Douglas and Saanich?  No that I recall as of last week.

It's asinine that the Carey turn was closed.

Can't one just turn left onto Tillicum and then right on Carey farther up?  That has two left turn lanes at least.

Sure but then you're getting off the highway, driving 640 M (according to Google Maps distance measuring thing) down a residential street out of your way only to turn onto another residential street. (not to mention if they aren't lucky with timing the Tillicum/TCH light takes forever to change). I think most people were going up Carey to Ravine to Blanshard over specifically Carey so going up McKenzie would probably be the better choice.
