The Spencer Rd/Bear Mountain interchange in Langford has been given the green light and funding is now secured, I believe.
I predict similar development like what has happened around the Millstream Interchange to occur around this new one.
It is going to attract a lot of major development on this side of Langford.

Its hard to tell from the aerial shot, but it looks like there will some limite access to the highway from Spencer Rd, as there seems to be a right turn lane on the Goldstream side.
I just hope Langford isnt going to encourage development near the interchange, like they did with Millstream. Although in the article it mentions that the access to Westshore Prky will be an intersection for now, I have a feeling that it could become an interchange rather sooner than later.

The authority has approved $3MM towards the $13MM interchange (the remainder is the responsibility of the Ministry).
More info in their newly-released ground transportation strategy doc.

I don't blame them. Ideas for an overpass at McTavish start at p.50 of this .pdf (p.41 of the report):So the airport authority is pushing hard for an overpass at McTavish and HWY17.

I wonder if the province even gives a hoot about HWY17 in light of monies going to Vancouver's Gateway project.
A couple of years back, the deputy minister of MoT stated that the Pat Bay Hwy is slated as the next major highways investment on Van Isle.
I can't find the news link, but just last year the CRD voted down the McTavish Road interchange due to, IIRC, other pressing transportation matters?????

To argue that the Mckenzie Overpass will solve traffic congestion on the TCH, is like arguing that safe injection sites will help solve drug abuse problems in our city.
This should not be a priority. The Island Highway Project has not solved the traffic problems of our region. Putting air pollution, smog and GHGs aside, building more highways and interchanges is a complete waste of land and money.
It just Post-phones the problem a few more years down the road.
