Sailors identified. http://vancouverisla...ified-1.2767143

The son of the former CDS and the son of a former rear-admiral. CTV VI suggesting that cocaine was involved. Looks like they were both LT(N) / Captain officers.

Just made my earlier point about things being a little different these days.

Edit: Jack Lawson, son of our former CDS, was not charged after the results of his drug test came back.

They are not officers.

The two facing charges are PSP (physical health/trainer) and a Leading Seaman bosun (a hull technician). So one is a civilian and the other is a non-commisioned member.

If they are still in the slammer they will be finding their own way home.

And maybe for a while too.  Japan drugs laws are the toughest in the world.

Bosun and Hull Tech are two different trades. So is he a deck ape or a shitter fitter?

I don't think the trade matters, I believe Mike K was trying to correct the impression spanky123's msg gives that the guys arrested are officers which they are not

Lawson graduated from Military College in 2010 which would make him an air force Captain by now. I edited my post previously to state that Lawson had been released.

Neither of the two charged are navy officers, not by a long shot. And a captain hanging out with a leading seaman is like an executive hanging out with the guys in the mail room. It's odd.

Edited.

We don't know, but the point is a commander told me he's a bosun so he carries a wrench not a rifle (not that navy guys carry weapons but you know what I mean).

Bosuns are the ones who carry the rifles in navy. Hull Techs are members of the Marine Engineering Department and they carry the wrenches.

From the RCN website

Boatswain (Bosun)

http://www.forces.ca...ob/boatswain-14

Boatswains are the seamanship specialists of the Canadian Armed Forces. They are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the ship’s rigging, shipboard cargo handling equipment, boats and small craft.

Hull Technician

Hull Technicians maintain the ship’s structure, stability, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, damage control and fire fighting equipment. They are the ship’s carpenter, welder, metal worker and damage control expert.

The point I'm trying (ever more) desperately to illustrate is that we don't have captains or officers sitting in a Japanese jail. One is an athletic trainer and the other a bosun.

You have made that point several times over, I get that. The other point I'm trying to make (ever more) desperately that you got the sailor's trade wrong and I'm righting that error. It may mean SFA to you but it is important to members of the Navy.

The official positions/titles of the three men involved in the Japanese drug situation:

Lawson - Air Force Captain, released following the results of a urine test

Greenwood - Marine Systems Engineer Leading Seaman, held in a Japanese prison

Tanaka - PSP (physical fitness), held in a Japanese prison

Outcomes (IMHO):

Lawson - career over unless he has a good excuse

Greenwood - career over

Tanaka - will be fired

The main point of interest here are the pedigrees.

If Lawson did no drugs, is he still in trouble?

The other two might do some serious time, drugs bad in Japan.

The ship left these folks behind last week and they could be looking at years in prison over there.

Depends on the circumstances. I don't know the details of course but the sole fact that he wasn't detained wouldn't convince me of no involvement. Sounds like he is Winnipeg's flying officer and without him then the ship would not be able to conduct aircraft operations.

There are two aircrew onboard. This won't affect flight ops very much if at all.
